Arkansas PBS Education production team is looking for someone passionate about education-focused storytelling and video production. A person who can elevate educational content to K12 students for engagement and learning purposes as part of a team. Someone who can pitch, shoot, and edit a wide variety of documentary shorts and local Arkansas content. A person who can elevate ideas into impactful video content for various platforms, including digital, social, and broadcast media. Ability to prioritize and react quickly in the field. The Producer is responsible for creating, pitching, and developing rich and engaging content across multiple platforms. Content development includes scripting, shooting (field & studio), and video editing. Producers should have a firm grasp of all aspects of storytelling in multiple disciplines ranging from short-form to long-form content while being highly organized with the ability to manage multiple schedules, budgets, and projects. Project coordination and great communication skills are a must. Producers must be proficient in all modern production technologies, including but not limited to professional video equipment, including HD cameras, audio and lighting, non-linear editing systems, and pre- and post-production software. Experience with delivery file formats, broadcast and web television standards, and motion graphics is a plus. This position will ensure the project meets all deadlines and standards of quality set by Arkansas PBS under the guidance of the Director of Education. This role requires a knowledge of producing live and prerecorded broadcast television in addition to developing supplemental and standalone content for a variety of digital platforms.

In addition to the duties described above, this position will produce long-form video content for professional development courses for Arkansas teachers. The Producer in Education collaborates with educators to learn specialized content and bring creative production design to critical educational concepts. They will plan the production process through storyboards, preliminary script, and/or production outline; and implement storytelling appropriate to the assigned content including the use of documentary, interviews, panel discussions, narrative scenarios, green screen, and other creative production techniques that maximize engagement while utilizing best practices in instructional design and experiential learning for academic/educational materials.

Production

  • Produce original videos for storytelling from concept to final production.

  • Conducts interviews, shooting, and editing for distribution on ARPBS multi-media platforms.

  • Determines suitable camera equipment, audio and video recorders, lighting equipment, props, and microphones for individual shoots.

  • Responsible for capturing and recording all aspects of a scene or event.

  • Edits sound and video for broadcast using nonlinear production software to skillfully enhance viewer engagement.

  • Responsible for turning uncut footage from a film shoot into a finished, cohesive final project.

  • Acts as liaison between hosts, moderators, and other talents

  • Assist with music selection, editing, and animation.

  • Determines which camera angles to use and coordinates sound and visual efforts in post-production.

  • Sets an example for thoughtful, creative leadership through innovative and resourceful practices.

    Creative Development

  • Develop and create compelling concepts to inform/educate, engage and emotionally draw in the audience on video subject matter(s).

  • Conceptualize and pitch innovative project ideas.

  • Develop and create storyboards, content, scripts, schedules, interview questions, and other creative production content as needed.

  • Conducts pre-interviews to screen for talent or subject’s ability to contribute to project.

  • Evaluates project objectives and target audience, operating within program format and content to attain desired goals, and staying within budget, time, and operational limitations.

    Project Coordination

  • Recruit and schedule talent for video shoots in accordance with the department and the station’s policies and procedures.

  • Manage creative process from concept blueprints to approvals and distribution/deliveries.

  • Coordinate production, shooting, and editing schedules.

  • Work closely with other Producers and Post-Production Supervisor to ensure standards of excellence.

  • Manage multiple projects and tasks under tight timelines with urgency, prioritization, and executing against deadlines.

  • Work with Marketing in preparing promotional materials and use of social media to engage with audiences.

  • Schedule time and creative input for the production of promotions with Marketing and the Promotions team

  • Ensure compliance with all underwriting requirements, any contractual obligations for the production from Arkansas PBS, and all legal compliance for the production.

  • Update Director with weekly project status reports through summaries, deadlines, and areas of struggle.

    Other duties as assigned.

    Must have a valid driver’s license.

    Minimum qualifications – a bachelors degree in radio/television or a related field; plus, two years of experience in radio/television or related field, including one year in a supervisory capacity.

    A preferred candidate would be proficient with hands-on scripting, cinematography, lighting, sound, and editing. Capacity to handle the creative and logistical production elements on multiple, overlapping projects with accurate and timely results. Strong general knowledge of current standards for digital and broadcast outputs. Preferred knowledge of broadcasting standards of FCC and PBS. Must be able to carry and move equipment.

Summary

The Television Producer is responsible for planning, coordinating, and producing television programs for professional development, documentaries, and/or entertainment using a variety television related media. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Functions

Supervises technical personnel by interviewing, recommending for hire, training, administering disciplinary action if needed, and evaluating performance. Communicates with development and budget teams to outline project goals, needs, objectives, and to establish a budget. Coordinates and supervises television production activities by assigning staff, and determining equipment needs and production location. Oversees live and taped programs by directing staff and monitoring equipment. Conducts television production meetings to keep technical staff informed of program goals and to exchange information Participates in and conducts meetings to discuss new production ideas or debriefings. Reviews media to assist in editing and selects music and accompanying visuals that explain the audio portion of the program. Presents program to supervisor for final review and makes changes if necessary. Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

The formal education equivalent of a bachelors degree in radio/television or a related field; plus two years of experience in the radio/television industry or a related field, including one year in a supervisory capacity. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management.
