The Check Fraud Specialist is responsible for reviewing prior day activity for exceptions or unusual account activity. This role will monitor account activity and communicate with branch personnel when suspicious activity is suspected.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Review all exception items presented over the counter and electronically for proper validation. This duty is performed daily, about 25% of the time.\
  2. Notify branch staff of suspected fraudulent items or unusual activity. This duty is performed daily, about 15% of the time.\
  3. Work with branch staff to close suspicious accounts if necessary. This duty is performed daily, about 10% of the time.\
  4. Monitor suspected accounts to ensure future items do not present payment. This duty is performed daily, about 10% of the time.\
  5. Work with various bank programs to research and document the cases. This duty is performed daily, about 10% of the time.\
  6. Create federal return file for items that need to be returned. This duty is performed daily, about 10% of the time.\
  7. Process returns using UCC rules to mitigate losses. This duty is performed daily, about 15% of the time.\
  8. Maintain detailed case notes to assist with future research. This duty is performed daily, about 15% of the time.\
  9. Log all cases for tracking. This duty is performed daily, about 10% of the time.\
  10. The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner. This duty is performed daily.\
  11. Completes required BSA/AML training and other compliance training as assigned. This duty is performed as needed.\
  12. Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Knowledge of a specialized field (however acquired), such as basic accounting, computer, etc. Equivalent of four years in high school, plus night, trade extension, or correspondence school specialized training, equal to two years of college, plus 2 years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Ability to read and understand documents such as policy manuals, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to prepare and interpret bar graphs.

CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS

Ability to utilize common sense understanding in order to carry out written, oral or diagrammed instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving several known variables in situations of a routine nature.
