What you will be doing!

Under the guidance of the engineering staff, executes product development activities related to mechanical and electro-mechanical systems. Creates layouts, detailed design and documentation tasks and performs test and verification of prototype assemblies.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Generates subsystem concept, sketches, specifications and related data and drawings to determine design factors, such as size, shape and functionality.

  • Develops layouts, detailed design drawings and diagrams for mechanical equipment, according to proposal specifications.

  • Drafts detailed multi-view drawings of machine and subassemblies including specifications for gear ratios, bearing loads, and direction of moving parts, using engineering data and standard references to ANSI Y 14.5.

  • Performs various aspects of engineering analysis such as: computing dimensions and loads, performing tolerance studies, and calculating stresses and strains.

  • Selects materials and finishes for critical design elements.

  • Produces final release drawing packages to include all piece part drawings, assemblies, bill of materials, and required release documents.

  • Orders material required for prototype and initial production.

  • Manages receipt of material through First Article inspection.

  • Assists in definition and execution of testing ensuring design performance and quality meets requirements.

  • Computes and analyzes test data to determine efficiency of machine design.

  • Initiates and processes engineering changes; Coordinates the implementation of those changes with Manufacturing, Materials, Field Service and Product Team personnel.

  • Supports technical publications in the development of customer documentation.

    Minimum Requirements:

  • Completion of at least 2 years in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Science or comparable undergraduate collegiate curriculum.

    Desired/Preferred Skills:

  • Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T)

  • PTC CREO and/or SolidWorks project experience.

  • Instrumentation: load cells, displacement transducers, accelerometers, pressure/flow sensors, inspection equipment, etc.

  • Analytical skills in mechanics, dynamics, vibration, materials and Finite Element Analysis (FEA)

    Physical Demands:

  • Requires the ability to use a computer on a frequent basis.

  • May have to remain stationary for extended periods, but also needs to be mobile enough to navigate through work areas.

  • Must be able to communicate clearly with fellow workers.
