Position Description

Legrand has an exciting opportunity for aMechanical Engineer (Product)to join theElectrical Wiring Systems Pass & Seymour Teamin Concord, NC.Responsible for the design, development, and improvement of new and existing products. These activities must support the company's goals of increasing market share and profitability through creativity and innovation.

What Will You Do?

  • Work with the Marketing Product Line Manager to provide assistance in developing the product specification. Gain consensus on design with marketing and manufacturing. Determine the appropriate codes and standards, testing requirements, end user preferences / trends, and competitive product analysis.

  • Create sketches, 3D files and prototype designs to express all the different options that are used to satisfy the product requirements. Evaluate these concepts to choose the best design based on customer requirements. Create final 3D models, assemblies, and drawings using SolidWorks and other CAD software to refine, develop and finalize the design.

  • Work with our patent attorney to avoid patent infringement and to protect Pass & Seymour's intellectual property by obtaining patents.

  • Work with Electrical Engineers to integrate Electrical Circuits (Printed Circuit Boards) into the product designs.

  • Refine and complete product design through modeling, prototyping, testing, analysis, piloting, and inspection of processes and first articles. Work closely with Advanced Manufacturing, Tool Shops and Manufacturing to procure prototype and production product components.

  • Produce and update necessary documentation to support production including engineering drawings and specifications, bills of materials, and quality requirements and testing.

  • Manage projects to rapid and effective completion including spanning departmental gaps.

  • Performs other similar and related duties as required.

Qualifications

Required Skills

Education:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) minimum.

    Experience:

  • 5 -10 years of relevant experience preferred.

    Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:

  • Must have product design experience with electro-mechanical assembly design, injection molded component design and progressive die stamped component design.

  • Must have experience with designing products for low cost and high-volume manufacturing processes.

  • Must be proficient with 3D CAD software. Experience in SolidWorks is preferred.

  • Must be proficient in use of CAD / Engineering Document management tools such as SolidWorks EPDM.

  • Must have ability to perform engineering calculations to evaluate designs. Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) preferred.

  • Must demonstrate creativity in the development of new or revised product design concepts.

  • Must have strong computer skills, proficient with word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software, e-mail, and meeting management software. Ability to use internet and web-based resources efficiently and effectively.

  • Must have excellent verbal and written communications skills and be able to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization. Must be an effective listener, able to maintain focus extract necessary information and validate understanding of the information.

  • Requires strong organizational and time management skills, close attention to detail and be able to effectively handle multiple priorities.

  • Knowledge of ISO14001 and Eco Design Principles.

  • Ability to design products to meet UL requirements.

  • Ability to work with Electrical and Software Engineers for the design of products that are internet connected (ioT).

    Position Attributes:

  • CAD:Have functional ability to produce 3D CAD solid models and 2D drawings.

  • Sustainability:Ability to design products for use in a Circular Economy.

  • Documentation:Produce ECN with BOM and Drawings to support existing and new design line expansions

  • Process:Suggest product design improvements for improved assembly efficiency.

  • Process:Suggest machine improvements to aid in product reliability and design for manufacturability.

  • Quality Systems:Design quality Check gages.

  • Product Testing:Devises and gains approval to perform specialized lab mechanical tests. Directs lab on exactly what and how-to setup tests.

  • Problem Solving:Innovates technical solutions for existing or new product designs.

  • Problem Solving:Resolves Product Complaints with consultation from senior engineer.

  • Problem Solving:Serve as primary on-site technical representative of critical product complaints with assistance from other department engineers.

  • Self-Direction:Priorities are set from department managers and Senior Engineers. Manage their own workload and coordinate with others.

  • Self-Direction:Drives new designs for existing products and for new offerings through our New Product Development (NPD) process.

  • Technical Leadership: Calls project meeting after approved subject matter from manager or senior engineer.

  • Technical leadership:Serve as on-site technical representative of product complaints.

  • Technical Leadership:Serve as technical resource for new product introductions.
