Position Overview:

The Employee Relations Manager will consult with the direct supervisor, managers, and administration to resolve employee relations issues and concerns, aiming to resolve internal conflicts using effective conflict management techniques. This includes facilitating communication to address employee problems in collaboration with managers, employees, and HR, and providing guidance and consultation on problem-solving, dispute resolution, and regulatory compliance. Additionally, the person in this role must have California-based experience managing employee relations issues for a mid to large-sized company.

Essential Job Functions

  • Stay informed of California employment laws, employee entitlements, including statutory medical leaves of absence, reasonable accommodations, interactive processes, worker’s compensation, etc.

  • Take accountability for company, department, and manager compliance with all applicable CA laws and company policies regarding employee rights, entitlements, and obligations.

  • Identify and offer solutions and initiatives regarding broader company policy and cultural issues, employee concerns, management and employee trends, and areas for managerial, workplace, performance management, and general ER improvement.

  • Conduct investigations into employee complaints, allegations of misconduct, or policy violations.

  • Work with leaders to address employee concerns and conflicts in a timely and confidential manner.

  • Collaborate with various Human Resources groups and department leaders to resolve employee issues and ensure fairness in disciplinary actions.

  • Develop and implement ideas to foster positive employee relations and a healthy work culture.

  • Support and drive projects that impact departmental and company-wide initiatives.

  • Coach, support, and/or train leaders to be effective and drive timely resolution of ER matters, including performance management, disciplinary actions, and employee complaints.

  • Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence by identifying and implementing process improvements where appropriate.

  • Conduct all business in a highly ethical manner, exhibiting behavior, practices, and standards that align with the company’s core values.

  • Create a safe and positive working environment where employees feel included, recognized, and heard.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Requirements

Job Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in employee relations, with at least 2 years in a managerial role

• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field

• Thorough knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations

• In-depth knowledge of California employment laws and regulations, including but not limited to the California Labor Code

• In-depth knowledge of federal employment laws and regulations

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to handle sensitive issues with discretion and professionalism

• Strong attention to detail

• Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution skills are essential

• Positive attitude and self-motivated

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, manage multiple priorities, and maintain a high level of confidentiality

Other Skills/Abilities

• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software

• Experience in HRIS Software (ADP) is helpful but not required

• SHRM or HRCI certification is a plus
