Responsibilities: People skills and a good customer service attitude are invaluable in this position. The Forest Practices Permit Tech is the first point of contact in the Forest Practices office for the public either at our Forest Practices walk-up window or through email inquiries or inquiries by telephone. This position is responsible for providing Forest Practices information, guidance, and assistance to FPA/N applicants and how the rules apply to a landowner's project, as well as acting as the initial contact either to resolve applicant disagreements/concerns or to forward concerns to the appropriate DNR Staff.   Basic office and organization skills and a detail-oriented nature are just as important as people skills. The Forest Practices Permit Tech is responsible for:

  • Review submitted FPA/Ns and other associated documents for accuracy, and to work with the applicant to ensure the FPA/N and other documents are complete.
  • Completing risk assessment for each FPA/N, processing FPA/Ns within rule-mandated timelines.
  • Keeping track of where multiple FPA/Ns are in the application process.
  • Communicating concerns to fellow FP staff members and others as appropriate.

*Required Qualifications: *

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Four (4) years' experience in a business environment with a strong emphasis on customer service; OR a combination of experience and education.
  • Experience using software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, SharePoint, and Adobe products.
  • Experience organizing, prioritizing, and working within tight schedules and timelines with attention to detail.
  • Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, including demonstrated ability to clearly articulate information to a variety of audiences.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Commitment to fostering and supporting an environment that honors diversity, equity, inclusion, and environmental justice practices.
  • Perform assigned duties in a manner consistent with applicable laws, regulations and public records retention and requests are followed.
