Job Overview:
The Cotton Foundation is seeking an experienced and dedicated Horse Trainer to join the team at Taylor's Place, located in Columbus, TX. This part-time position offers an excellent opportunity to work in a professional environment where the focus is on horse development, behavior improvement, and overall well-being. The ideal candidate will have a deep passion for working with horses, possess excellent training skills, and thrive in a supportive team setting. As a Horse Trainer, you will play a vital role in ensuring the horses' success while maintaining the highest standards of care and safety.
Key Responsibilities
Train and Exercise Horses: Design and implement training exercises tailored to each horse's individual needs, focusing on skill development, behavior improvement, and overall performance.
Horse Care and Grooming: Provide daily care, grooming, feeding, and basic health monitoring to ensure the horses remain in optimal condition.
Develop Customized Training Plans: Assess each horse's progress and create personalized training programs to meet their unique needs and goals.
Maintain a Safe Environment: Ensure that all horses are housed in safe, clean, and well-maintained facilities, promoting both the horses’ well-being and the safety of staff.
Collaboration: Work closely with other team members, including barn staff and other trainers, to monitor the health and performance of horses and ensure their overall success.
Equipment Maintenance: Properly maintain training equipment, tack, and other related tools.
Qualifications
Experience: Proven experience in horse training, with a track record of successfully working with horses of varying breeds, ages, and skill levels.
Training Techniques: Strong knowledge of various horse training methods, including groundwork, riding techniques, and behavioral modification.
Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills, with the ability to provide clear instructions, feedback, and updates to team members and supervisors.
Physical Fitness: Must have the physical stamina to handle the demands of the job, including lifting, grooming, and working with horses in various environments.
Reliability: Must be dependable, punctual, and responsible in all aspects of the role, with a strong commitment to the horses' well-being and the goals of the foundation.
Independence & Teamwork: Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment, with a focus on mutual respect and shared goals.
Preferred Skills & Attributes:
Familiarity with equine health, nutrition, and basic veterinary care.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to address behavioral challenges.
Prior experience working in a nonprofit or community-focused setting is a plus.
