Confluent Senior Solutions Engineer - OEM (West Coast, US) in Columbus, Ohio

With Confluent, organizations can harness the full power of continuously flowing data to innovate and win in the modern digital world. We have a purpose that drives us to do better every day – we're creating an entirely new category within data infrastructure - data streaming. This technology will allow every organization to create experiences and use the power of data in ways that profoundly impact the way we all live. This impact is our purpose and drives us to do better every day.

One Confluent. One team. One Data Streaming Platform.

Data Connects Us.

About the Role:

We’re seeking a strong technologist who will support and grow the technical partnership with customers of our newly-formed OEM sales team. Solutions Engineers at Confluent drive the technical evaluation stage within the sales process and also play a crucial role in enabling ongoing value-realization for customers. In this role you’ll partner with Account Executives to be the key technical advisor in service of our OEM customers, work very closely with the product management and engineering teams, and serve as a vital product advocate in front of prospects, customers, and the wider Kafka and Flink communities.

You’ll be instrumental in surfacing the customers’ stated or implicit business needs, and coming up with technical designs to best meet these needs. You may find yourself facilitating art-of-the-possible discussions and storytelling to inspire customers in adopting new patterns with confidence, and at other times driving creative solutions to help get past difficult technical roadblocks. We look upon Solutions Engineers to be a key cog within the Customer Success Team that help foster an environment of sustained success for the customer and incremental adoption of Confluent’s technology.

What You Will Do:

  • Present Confluent and explain value propositions to different audiences (executives, technical leaders, architects, etc.)

  • Help advance new & innovative Data Streaming use-cases from conception to go-live.

  • Guide customers with hands-on help and best practice to drive operational maturity of their embedded Confluent deployments.

  • Build and manage relationships with key technical leaders.

  • Collaborate internally to support OEM initiatives such as the creation of scalable GTM assets, pricing and packaging changes, and partner team enablement.

  • Work closely with Product and Engineering teams, and serve as a key internal advocate for the unique needs of OEM customers (use cases, feature requests, support issues, etc).

  • Occasionally author whitepapers, technical articles, and blog posts.

  • Help to shape and scale this new team by building reusable content and programs.

What You Will Bring:

  • Experience working with ISVs in a similar, OEM-focused, role. Ideally as a solutions engineer, technical account manager, or similar.

  • Experience with technical sales of distributed systems, infrastructure software like databases, message queues, SaaS, or data integration products commonly used in the enterprise.

  • Demonstrated hands-on experience architecting complex enterprise solutions for customers and/or partners and, importantly, for resale to their end customers rather than internal use.

  • Exceptional presentation and communications capabilities. Confidence presenting to a highly skilled and experienced audience, ranging from developers to enterprise architects and up to C-level executives. Able to clearly articulate both complex technical narratives and their associated business benefits.

  • Experience operating within and across cross-functional teams including product management, engineering, sales, marketing, etc.

  • Ability to quickly learn, understand, and work with new and emerging technologies, methodologies, and solutions.

  • 5+ years of Solutions Engineering or similar work experience.

  • Bonus: experience with Automation, GitOps and Kubernetes.

  • Bonus: some programming proficiency in Java, Python, SQL.

  • Bonus: Technical certifications - Cloud Developer/Architect, Data Engineering & Integration.

What Gives You an Edge:

  • Previous experience building solutions with Apache Kafka and/or other streaming technologies.

  • Knowledge of Apache Flink, Spark, Kafka Streams and/or other stream processing technologies.

  • Experience as a Technical Sales/Systems Engineer in a cloud environment or equivalent experience in a customer and/or partner-facing role.

  • Experience designing and building big data, stream processing, and/or other distributed systems for Fortune 1000 companies.

  • Experience working within global teams.
