Actalent Project Architect in Columbus, Ohio

Job Description

This person will report to the Director of Design and support a variety of sectors including Healthcare, Life Sciences, Food & Beverage, Corporate, Sr Living, Education, Historic, and Athletics. The Construction Management firm serves the Midwest and Southeast regions of the United States and specializes in public and private building and industrial projects. Expertise includes construction management, general construction, design/build, and build-to-suit lease-back.

The Project Architect plays a pivotal role, driving the architectural design process from conception through construction while ensuring alignment with project goals and standards. This role requires a balance between design innovation and technical acumen, mentoring junior staff, and delivering high-quality outcomes in sectors such as healthcare, life sciences, and food/beverage.

Job Responsibilities include:

  • Manage External Design Partners: Leverage external architectural firms to align on project goals and standards.

  • Client Interaction: Engage with owners, clients, and internal departments to gather project requirements and develop actionable plans.

  • Execute Internal Architectural Design Process: Oversee all design phases, including Programming, Concepting, Schematic Design, Design Development, and Construction Documentation.

  • Develop Standards: Assist in creating and maintaining departmental and BIM (Revit) standards, and standard details.

  • Prepare Construction Documents: Assemble high quality, comprehensive construction documents and write project specifications.

  • Coordinate Design Teams: Collaborate with PME designers and other design partners to ensure integrated project solutions.

  • Support Business Development: Develop concepts and graphics for project proposals with the BD team.

  • Ensure Compliance: Conduct code reviews and ensure designs meet Ohio Building Code and other regulatory requirements.

  • Project Management: Manage project timelines, budgets, and deliverables, coordinating with stakeholders.

  • Conduct Field Work: Perform field work and oversee construction administration to resolve project issues.

  • Support Cost Estimation: Assist in the cost estimating process with the PreCon department.

  • Mentor and Manage Junior Staff: Guide, mentor, and manage junior staff, fostering their development and ensuring alignment with project objectives.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Architecture

6+ years of architectural design and project management experience

Experience within Revit modeling

Strong balance between design and technical skills, particularly in construction detailing.

Experience with architectural design of healthcare, life sciences, or Food & Beverage manufacturing projects

Experience with writing specification.

Understanding of Ohio Building Code, including code review, zoning, and planning commission processes.

This is a direct hire position

Work Environment

In-Office 5 days a week. If you live in Columbus or Cincinnati and meet the qualifications, you may have the opportunity to work in Columbus/Cincinnati while also needing to work out of the Dayton office (roughly 2 days in Dayton per week).
