The office of Columbus City Attorney Zach Klein is seeking qualified applicants for the position of full-time Legal Administrative Assistant in our Prosecution Division. This position is responsible for assisting the attorneys and staff in the City Attorney’s Office by providing administrative support and performing routine clerical and research activities.
The starting minimum salary for this position is $43,680 ($21.00/hour).
Knowledge of and ability to:
Review Traffic and Criminal Cases for court hearings
Collaborate with local police agencies and liaisons to gather evidence
Basic word processing, scanning, faxing, photocopying, printing, and data entry
English grammar, spelling, punctuation, proofreading, and composition
Effectively maintain good relations during public contact and stay calm in tense situations
Maintain confidentiality of privileged information
Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with others
Preparedness to look at sensitive/graphic material
Examples of work:
Process and maintain cases in the Matrix database program
Compile evidence such as witness statements, crash reports, 911 calls, and video evidence
Prepare routine legal documents, i.e., Subpoenas, Marsys Law notices, Out of State letters, etc.
Distinguish what witness is needed for various court hearings
Subpoena witnesses to appropriate case and Judge assignment
Prepare and maintain daily courtroom docket
Orchestrate the flow of paperwork and attach it to appropriate cases
About the Prosecution Division:
Located at 375 South High Street in the Franklin County Courthouse complex, the Prosecutor Division is responsible for the prosecution of misdemeanor offenses on behalf of citizens of the City of Columbus and the State of Ohio in the Franklin County Municipal Court. From case initiation in our Prosecution Resources Unit to defense of successful prosecutions in our Appellate Unit, the Division provides a wide array of services attendant to the resolution of criminal allegations and complaints. In addition to the services we provide the citizens of the City of Columbus and the unincorporated areas of Franklin County, this Division also represents, by contractual agreement, a number of Franklin County municipalities. The Division consists of Assistant City Prosecutors, the Legal Assistant Unit, the Prosecution Resources Unit, the Domestic Violence & Stalking Unit, and the Appellate Unit.
