Basic Job Function Summary COTA

Provides occupational therapy services to the agency’s clients under the guidance and supervision of the Occupational Therapist, and in accordance with a written plan of treatment established by a physician, and any applicable state/certification requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Licensure as an occupational therapist assistant, if applicable, in the state of practice.

  • Graduation from a two-year college-level program approved by the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) or two years of appropriate experience as a physical therapist assistant and achievement of a satisfactory grade on proficiency examination conducted, approved, or sponsored by the U.S. Public Health Service

  • Minimum of six months experience under a qualified occupational therapist

  • Home healthcare experience preferred.

  • Must accept responsibility for maintaining clinical practice skills learning and adhering to agency’s policies and procedures on an on-going basis.

  • Must be able to function in a practice environment with minimal direct supervision, accepting personal responsibility for maintaining a professional relationship with the agency’s clients and their families.

  • Must have current Driver’s license and reliable transportation to and from work site.

  • Ability to consistently demonstrate the Organizational Core Competencies and Organizational Code of Ethics and adhere to the Compliance Program.

Essential Functions

  • Effectively and efficiently prioritizes visit content and plans visits based on client capabilities, condition, preferences (when possible), physician orders and available resources.

  • Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal. State and local laws and regulations, the Organizational Integrity Program, Code of Ethics, as well as agency policies and procedures and adheres in a manner that reflects honest, ethical and professional behavior.

  • Provides occupational therapy services to clients according to a physician’s written plan of treatment.

  • Implements the care plans for clients developed by the supervising occupational therapist.

  • Provides direct occupational therapy treatment to clients as assigned.

  • Instructs clients and family members in the use and care of therapeutic appliances and devices, such as ADL assistive devices, braces, etc.
