Description The Accountant is responsible for the accounting research and documentation relating to accounting issues, the reconciliation and analysis of balance sheet accounts, and the completion of month-end journal entries and other closing procedures. This position monitors and reviews specific financial activity in order to prepare financial statements and reports. This position conducts research and analysis to provide management throughout Northwest with definitive financial data, account reconciliation, balancing, and adjustments and performs control functions for subsidiaries including deposits, receivables, loan loss, assets, liabilities, and reviewing certain statements and documents. This position is responsible for updating and running the accounting engine and posting all month end transactions related to acquired loan pool while preparing various month end and quarter end reports from the Evolv system. Essential Functions * Ensure compliance with third party vendors * Work to become the primary backup for monthly executions and reconciliations of acquired loans accounting * Balance various general ledgers * Reconcile various general ledgers * Review and sign off various general ledgers * Build cash boxes * Build over/short accounts for new offices * Perform tests and queries on various portfolios * Reconcile and monitor various internal checking accounts * Identify and resolve compliance issues * Communicate guidance within business unit staff and management * Identify risks and implement controls to minimize risk * Prepare documents and files on a quarterly and semi-annual basis, including PDFs * Post acquisition disposal for fixed assets * Post items monthly to the general ledger * Assist in annual budgeting * Assist with accounting tasks for subsidiaries * Order and monitor checks * Order and monitor money orders * Assist offices to reconcile stop payment check * Run daily ATM settlement entries * Prepare and analyze various statistics/reports * Identify and resolve specific accounting problems * Reconcile and analyze balance sheet accounts * Complete month-end journal entries and other closing procedures * Review, monitor and re-estimate quarterly cash flow assumptions for acquired loan portfolio * Update Evolv loan accounting system and ensure acquired loan book is accurately stated * Research and correct posting errors * Recommend improvements to procedures * Develop customer service levels Additional Essential Functions * Ensure compliance with Northwest's policies and procedures, and Federal/State regulations * Navigate Microsoft Office Software, computer applications, and software specific to the department in order to maximize technology tools and gain efficiency * Work as part of a team * Work with on-site equipment Additional Responsibilities * Complete other duties and special projects as requested by management Safety and Health for Supervisors with Direct Reports * Provide leadership and positive direction for maintaining the safety and loss prevention program * Actively participate in and support employee participation in the safety and loss prevention program by ensuring that employees know how to properly report a safety issue, making sure that all accidents are promptly reported to Human Resources and documented, and ensuring that prompt action is taken whenever workplace hazards are identified * Help implement emergency procedures QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
