Summary: Abacus Technology is seeking an Inside Plant/Outside Plant Technician Lead to support base telecommunications systems (BTS) for 14th Flying Training Wing at Columbus AFB. This is a full-time position.
Duties and Responsibilities: Guide a small team of technicians in performance of base telecommunications support projects and maintenance tasks. Install/configure/maintain/troubleshoot CAT 5/6 cabling according to national, DoD, and/or AF standards from network device to termination. Perform installs in accordance with the contract requirements and national standards including proper duct work and digging/trenching. Maintain all premise components such as conduits, raceway, outlets, patch panels, cabinets, etc. Install/configure/maintain/troubleshoot Fiber cabling, routes, and connections including testing and terminating. Perform preventative maintenance on equipment such as cable vault and sump pump on regular intervals. Configure/maintain/troubleshoot all copper radio/analog circuits including 66 blocks and routing them back to telephony VoIP server. Input/update/maintain cable records into such databases as CAIRS, CVC, IMDS, and Excel. Use ticketing systems such as Remedy and CIPS to create/complete/route tickets between other agencies and customers. Provide Public Address (PA) system coverage for special events including equipment setup/break down, troubleshooting, and providing media for event. Attend meetings and support administrative tasks and deliverables as needed. Ensure work orders are completed and incidents are resolved in accordance with contract requirements.
Education and Qualifications: 7+ years experience support the installation of telephone systems and cable plant support including at least 3 years in a lead or supervisory role. HS diploma or GED. Must be OSHA Confined Space certified. Fiber and/or fusion splicing certifications a plus. Experience working with GPS and ground location equipment. Experience with CAT 3/5/6 installation and termination. Experience with Fiber installation and handling. Knowledge of OSHA standards and established safety/quality practices. ANSI and TIA knowledge and understanding. Knowledge of VoIP and a cable records database such as CVC, CAIRS, or equivalent desired. Comfortable using MS Office suite. Must be self-motivated, be able to communicate clearly, customer service oriented, and perform work in a neat and organized manner. Able to work in dark, confined, and dirty spaces to inspect/maintain/repair manholes, handholes, splices, and terminals. Able to lift heavy equipment, stand, crawl, and climb ladders. Must have a valid driver's license. Must be a US citizen.
