We are seeking a skilled Phlebotomist I to join our team in Columbus. The ideal candidate will have experience in blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, decontamination, and updating patient information. The Phlebotomist I will collect and store specimens according to established procedures and explain the process of venipuncture and other specimen collection methods clearly and courteously to patients.

Responsibilities

  • Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.

  • Explain the process of venipuncture, blood drawing, and other specimen collection methods to patients clearly and courteously.

  • Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.

  • Fully understand all of the physicians' orders.

  • Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.

  • Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.

  • Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.

  • Package specimens for transport.

  • Store specimen samples according to required temperature and place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes.

  • Accurately label and follow procedures necessary for transport to maintain the integrity of the specimen.

  • Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.

  • Attend annual department trainings.

  • Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

Essential Skills

  • Phlebotomy

  • 6+ months of recent Phlebotomy experience

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • Experience with 25+ patient draws per day

  • Phlebotomy certification

  • Experience in hospital or primary care settings

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Geriatric experience

  • At least 6 months of clinical experience

Work Environment

The Phlebotomist I will work in a Urology Center (IOP account) located at 1021 Talbotton Rd, Columbus, GA, USA. The typical workload includes 25-35 sticks per phlebotomist, and 40+ to 50 sticks for two people. The schedule is Monday to Thursday from 8 am to 5:30 pm, and Friday from 8 am to 1 pm. Training will be one week in Columbus, GA. This role is ideal for someone with an outgoing personality who is not shy and has strong customer service skills.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $16.00 - $18.50/hr.
