Overview: Nomad Global Communication Solutions is a leading provider of communication and response products, serving a variety of customers. Our purpose is to be the solution when every minute matters and we are seeking an internal candidate for an Assistant Assembly Team Lead position.

The Assembly Assistant Team Lead assists the Assembly Team Lead in leading and managing the team and being responsible for producing strategic or tactical vehicles in a manufacturing shop environment. The successful candidate will have demonstrated strong leadership skills and the ability to effectively assist in leading a team of 4-8 employees.

Essential Functions / Responsibility:

  • In the absence of the Assembly Team Lead, ensure that safety, efficiency, and delivery goals are met.

  • Demonstrate an understanding of all portions of the production process.

  • Operate everyday according to Leader Standard Work (LSW), ensuring proper use of LSW and that appropriate countermeasures are taken when problems surface.

  • Maintain and use Visual Controls and Daily Management Boards (DMB).

  • Lead daily startups through Tier 1 meetings.

  • Monitor progress throughout each shift (per LSW), comparing the target to the actual.

  • Report Daily to the Team at Tier 1 and to Program Manager at Tier 2; tie teams to the department and support groups through Tier 2 meetings with the Program Manager.

  • Lead continuous improvement through the collection and analysis of the data for the project team assigned.

  • Ensure each project is built in adherence to all Nomad QC requirements and documentation is complete (per LSW).

  • Operate with a Continuous Improvement mindset.

  • Reduce waste and support key company objectives at the team level.

  • Assist Program Manager in developing, implementing, and maintaining production standards, SOPs, quality, and safety.

  • Ensure Assembly Technician Teammates are cross-trained and specific training requirements are being achieved.

  • Perform all functions of an Assembly Technician including, but not limited to, flooring installation, plumbing, door and window installation, HVAC, cabinet and countertop making, electrical wiring, etc.

  • Lead and direct Team in the manufacture of projects, while meeting key metric requirements: DLH, IDL, Time and Attendance, Production Rework, OT, efficiency, and safety targets.

  • Be responsible for 5S, shop floor cleanliness, and clear connection to IC for kitting and parts queue.

  • Coordinate with Program Manager, Production Supervisor, and other staff resources for appropriate staffing levels.

  • Assist Assembly Team Lead with informal reviews of team members and performance management through appropriate observation and documentation.

  • Read, understand, and apply Engineer CAD drawings.

  • Demonstrate ability to lead and work collaboratively with others.

  • Demonstrate understanding of Nomad production processes:

  • Production and Processing - raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture of our products.

  • Mechanical – machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.

  • Engineering and Technology – practical application of engineering, including applying principles, techniques, procedures, and design.

  • Building and Construction –materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of communication platforms.

  • Safety and Security – Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote a safe and working environment 100% of the time.

  • Be innovative, a self-starter, dependable, and able to respond quickly and accurately on multiple priorities.

  • Have strong PC skills and knowledge of E2, Excel, Word, etc.

  • Demonstrate good communication, organizational, and time management skills.

    Physical Demands:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and arms to finger, handle, feel, reach, or operate objects, tools, or controls.

  • The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, and is occasionally required to sit.

  • At times, the employee will be required to work at heights up to 20 feet.

  • The employee must frequently lift and/or carry up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Anything heavier than 50 pounds will require two people to lift / carry.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job including close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to distinguish individual colors.

    Working Environment:

  • The work environment is a partially environmentally controlled indoor environment. Depending upon the time of year, temperatures can fluctuate between 60F and 100F but is typically around 70F. There are times when working outside will be required.

  • The employee must have the ability to work from heights at the ground floor up to 20 feet from the ground on ladders or platforms of varying sizes.

  • The employee may be subjected to noise levels, ranging from low volume to loud and will be required to wear provided safety hearing devices from time to time.

  • The employee will be exposed to a variety of household/commercial chemicals that will require the employee to follow company rules/regulations outlined by MSDS.

  • All Team Members must wear OSHA-approved safety glasses and closed-toed shoes at all times on the production floor.

    Qualifications & Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED; higher education helpful.

  • 1+ years of experience at Nomad GCS required.

  • 3-5 years of manufacturing or construction management (or the equivalent of education and experience).

  • General electrical knowledge desired.

  • Experience with inventory management systems and E2.

  • Demonstrated experience, knowledge, or aptitude in Lean methodology.

  • Ability to train and mentor other team members.
