Salary Range : $ 160,000 - $200,000 annually. Compensation will be commensurate upon experience and qualifications.

Summary

The inaugural Vice Chancellor for Inclusive Strategy and Chief of Staff at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS) is a visionary leader and strategic partner on the Chancellor's executive team, serving as a campus-wide resource for advancing the university's mission and inclusive strategic goals. This position combines strategic oversight of inclusive culture and belonging with high-level support for the Chancellor, championing a collaborative, inclusive, and innovative culture across all academic, research, and operational areas. This role is pivotal in driving UCCS' strategic direction, fostering operational excellence, and embedding inclusion, diversity, equity, and access (IDEA) principles into every facet of institutional decision-making and change management. The individual in this position will shape the future of this role, contributing to the development of new initiatives and taking ownership of strategies that promote a culture of inclusivity, collaboration, and excellence across the campus community. This executive will be a key advisor and thought leader, cultivating partnerships within and beyond the university to ensure sustained success and impact.

Essential Functions

The duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to: Strategic Leadership and Institutional Transformation :

  • Serve as a strategic advisor and resource to the Chancellor and senior leadership, driving the development and implementation of a comprehensive strategic vision that promotes innovation, inclusivity, and excellence.

  • Collaborate with senior leaders to conduct strategic assessments and analyses that identify opportunities, address challenges, and foster growth through equitable, data-driven decision-making.

  • Lead the creation, execution, and continuous refinement of a dynamic/agile strategic plan that aligns with the evolving priorities, mission, and vision of UCCS, emphasizing inclusive excellence.

  • Partner with key stakeholders to champion initiatives that embed IDEA principles in every decision and action, ensuring that diversity, equity, inclusion and access are at the core of the university's strategic framework.

  • Mentor and inspire leadership at all levels, fostering a collaborative, innovative, and high-performance culture across the university.

Executive Coordination and Governance :

  • Act as a primary liaison between the Chancellor, the Board of Regents, the President's Office, and other key stakeholders, advocating for UCCS' strategic interests and institutional goals.

  • Oversee and manage the preparation for Board of Regents meetings, including agenda setting, briefing packets, and presentations, while ensuring compliance with governance standards and promoting transparency.

  • Collaborate with university leadership to ensure seamless alignment with strategic priorities and promote effective communication and partnership across all organizational levels.

Strategic Initiatives and Inclusive Change Management :

  • Lead transformative, university-wide initiatives that drive positive, inclusive, and sustainable change, aligning all efforts with the strategic goals and mission of UCCS.

  • Oversee the execution of multi-divisional projects and initiatives, managing resources, timelines, and outcomes to ensure success and alignment with the university's strategic priorities.

  • Implement and manage an annual strategy process that proactively identifies and addresses evolving institutional priorities, emphasizing resilience, innovation and inclusivity in response to higher education trends and challenges.

  • Regularly evaluate and adapt strategies to ensure they effectively advance UCCS' commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, access, and academic excellence.

  • Drive strategic initiatives to enhance university enrollment and diversify revenue streams through innovative partnerships, targeted recruitment strategies, and financial optimization efforts.

Champion of Inclusive Culture and Belonging :

  • Advocate for initiatives promoting equity, belonging, and engagement, ensuring IDEA principles are woven into the fabric of UCCS' strategy, operations, and culture.

  • Collaborate and partner with IDEA stakeholders, senior leaders across the CU system, and external community partners to develop and advance initiatives that support institutional growth and transformation through an inclusive lens.

  • Serve as a prominent and persuasive voice for the university's commitment to inclusive culture and belonging, effectively communicating these values to diverse internal and external audiences.

Crisis Management and Strategic Resilience :

  • Serve as the principal point of contact for the Chancellor during emergencies, ensuring the university maintains critical functions and responds effectively to various scenarios.

  • Lead efforts to resolve campus conflicts, fostering dialogue, reconciliation, and solutions reinforcing a culture of belonging and safety.

  • Direct the Significant Events Team (SET) and work closely with campus safety and administrative leaders to manage crises and enhance the university's capacity for strategic resilience.

Direct Support to the Chancellor :

  • Oversee the operations of the Chancellor's Office, ensuring equity, efficiency, and alignment with strategic objectives.

  • Provide critical analysis, counsel, and strategic recommendations to advance the Chancellor's priorities, enabling effective decision-making and inclusive organizational excellence.

  • Coordinate executive leadership meetings to ensure strategic priorities are clearly communicated and executed effectively across the campus.

Tentative Search Timeline:

Qualifications

Education: A Master's degree in a relevant field is required. Year-for-year experience in a relevant field may be considered as a substitution for the degree.

Experience:

  • Demonstrated success in strategic leadership within a complex organizational environment, ideally within higher education or a similarly dynamic sector.

  • Experience developing, directing, and implementing strategic initiatives that drive organizational growth, promote inclusivity, and generate transformative outcomes.

  • Proven ability to build and sustain collaborative partnerships and manage relationships with diverse stakeholders, fostering a culture of inclusivity and engagement.

  • Demonstrated commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion through leadership, advocacy, and strategic initiatives.

Skills:

  • The ideal candidate is skilled in strategic planning, policy analysis, and change management with an appreciation for project management, and can lead complex initiatives from conception through execution.

  • Strong interpersonal and negotiation abilities and excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential for this role.

Special Qualifications:

  • A certification or degree in inclusion, diversity, equity, and access leadership or a related field is highly desirable.

  • Bilingual or multilingual (in any language, including ASL) is highly desirable.
