The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) & U.S. Northern Command (USNORTHCOM) and U.S. Space Command (USSPACECOM) Operations Department (N256) provides applied systems and mission engineering to both Combatant Commands (CCMD). N256 is a critical element of the Joint Staff / Unified CCMD Division (N250), emphasizing collaboration and mission-focused solutions. This Operations Research position, based in Colorado Springs, CO, will support both CCMDs through data analysis related to multiple mission threads addressing critical operations in areas including Homeland Defense, Space Domain Awareness, Satellite Communications, and Spacecraft Operations. The successful candidate will assist both sponsors in identifying areas where data analysis can improve operational capabilities, and work to develop and execute analytic activities in accordance with sponsor guidance.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Apply operations research, statistics, and data analytics concept and approaches to real world problems

  • Partner closely with the MITRE staff on how to apply MITRE’s data analytics, data analysis, statistics, and data science capabilities to address sponsor challenges

  • Apply analytic rigor through prototyping involving some software development

  • Present results in an intuitive, actionable manner that can be understood by all sponsor audiences, regardless of technical expertise

  • Able to work independent or part of larger team in sponsor and hybrid work environment

  • Performing data cleaning, visualization, and analysis in standard statistical and graphics software languages such as R, Stata, and Excel

  • Performing quantitative analysis on and glean insights from real-world datasets

  • Applying scientific methods, processes, algorithms, and techniques to extract knowledge and insights from structured and unstructured data, leveraging expertise in computer science, mathematics, and related fields.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 2 years of related experience; or an advanced degree with relevant experience who can immediately contribute at this job step; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.

  • Active Top Secret security clearance.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of principles, concepts, methods, and tools for conducting operations research, statistical analysis, mathematical modeling, or data analytic studies.

  • Familiarity and experience in a modern programming language (e.g., RStudio, MATLAB, Python, Java), and or Modeling tools, simulation/optimization/business intelligence platforms (e.g., AFSIM, Cameo, SimPy, SAS, Tableau)

  • Ability to apply operations research, statistics, and data analytics to real world problems.

  • This position requires an onsite presence of 5 days a week onsite.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in technical discipline (engineering, computer science, math, data analytics, or related physical sciences).

Salary compensation range and midpoint:

$91,000 - $114,000 - $137,000 Annual
