Job Description: Sigmatech is seeking enthusiastic, well-qualified IT professional, adept at System Administration and Network Engineering, responsible for ensuring the stable operation of the NSSI's information systems network infrastructure. The Network Engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing, and managing NSSI network systems to ensure high performance and reliability. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in network engineering and a passion for solving complex network issues. Job responsibilities for this position include:

  • Design, configure, and maintain network infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, and other network devices.

  • Implement and manage network security measures to safeguard against threats and vulnerabilities.

  • Monitor network performance and troubleshoot issues to ensure optimal operation and minimal downtime.

  • Collaborate with Information Technology (IT) and business teams to design and implement network solutions that meet organizational needs.

  • Conduct network capacity planning and recommend hardware and software upgrades as needed.

  • Document network configurations, changes, and procedures for future reference and compliance.

  • Provide technical support and guidance to junior network staff and other departments.

  • Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies to recommend improvements and innovations.

Required Experience:

Tasks:

  • Configure and optimize network hubs, routers, and switches (e.g., higher-level protocols, tunneling).

  • Develop and implement network backup and recovery procedures.

  • Diagnose network connectivity problems.

  • Install and maintain network infrastructure device operating system software (e.g., IOS, firmware).

  • Install or replace network hubs, routers, and switches.

  • Monitor network capacity and performance.

  • Patch network vulnerabilities to ensure information is safeguarded against outside parties.

  • Test and maintain network infrastructure including software and hardware devices.

Skills:

  • Skill in analyzing network traffic capacity and performance characteristics.

  • Skill in implementing and testing network infrastructure contingency and recovery plans.

  • Skill in establishing a routing schema.

  • Skill in implementing, maintaining, and improving established network security practices.

  • Skill in installing, configuring, and troubleshooting LAN and WAN components such as routers, hubs, and switches.

  • Skill in configuring and utilizing computer protection components (e.g., hardware firewalls, servers, routers, as appropriate).

  • Knowledge of network security architecture concepts including topology, protocols, components, and principles (e.g., application of defense-in-depth).

  • Knowledge of network systems management principles, models, methods (e.g., end-to-end systems performance monitoring), and tools.

  • Knowledge of risk management processes (e.g., methods for assessing and mitigating risk).

  • Knowledge of server administration and systems engineering theories, concepts, and methods.

  • Knowledge of national and international laws, regulations, policies, and ethics as they relate to cybersecurity.

  • Knowledge of cybersecurity principles.

  • Knowledge of cyber threats and vulnerabilities.

  • Knowledge of communication methods, principles, and concepts (e.g., crypto, dual hubs, time multiplexers) that support the network infrastructure.

  • Knowledge of key telecommunications concepts (e.g., Routing Algorithms, Fiber Optics Systems Link Budgeting, Add/Drop Multiplexers).

  • Knowledge of Virtual Private Network (VPN) security.

  • Knowledge of capabilities and applications of network equipment including hubs, routers, switches, bridges, servers, transmission media, and related hardware.

  • Knowledge of computer networking concepts and protocols, and network security methodologies.

  • Knowledge of basic concepts, terminology, and operations of a wide range of communications media (computer and telephone networks, satellite, fiber, wireless).

  • Knowledge of common network tools (e.g., ping, traceroute, nslookup).

  • Knowledge of different types of network communication (e.g., LAN, WAN, MAN, WLAN, WWAN).

  • Knowledge of organization’s LAN/WAN pathways.

  • Knowledge of cybersecurity principles used to manage risks related to the use, processing, storage, and transmission of information or data.

  • Knowledge of specific operational impacts of cybersecurity lapses.

  • Knowledge of cloud computing service models Software as Service (SaaS), Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), and Platform as a Service (PaaS).

  • Knowledge of cloud computing deployment models in private, public, and hybrid environments and the difference between on-premises and off-premises environments.

  • Knowledge of information technology (IT) security principles and methods (e.g., firewalls, demilitarized zones, encryption).

  • Knowledge of local area and wide area networking principles and concepts including bandwidth management.

  • Knowledge of measures or indicators of system performance and availability.

  • Knowledge of network protocols such as TCP/IP, Dynamic Host Configuration, Domain Name System (DNS), and directory services.

  • Knowledge of web filtering technologies.

  • Knowledge of the capabilities of different electronic communication systems and methods (e.g., e-mail, VOIP, IM, web forums, Direct Video Broadcasts).

  • Knowledge of the range of existing networks (e.g., PBX, LANs, WANs, WIFI, SCADA).

  • Knowledge of how traffic flows across the network (e.g., Transmission Control Protocol [TCP] and Internet Protocol [IP], Open System Interconnection Model [OSI], Information Technology Infrastructure Library, current version [ITIL]).

Compliance Per DoD 8140 Qualification Matrix: Intermediate Proficiency Level

Education: A BS degree in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Data Science, Information Systems, or Computer Science, from an Accredited Board for Engineering and Technology accredited or Centers of Academic Excellence designated institution. Bachelor's Degree in related field (Master's preferred).

Experience: 5+ years of experience in network operations or a similar role. Experience with network hardware and software, including Cisco, Juniper, or other network devices (routers, switches, firewalls), and monitoring tools.

Personnel Certification: CND or Network+; CEH or CFR or Cloud+ or GICSP or SSCP or Security+ or GSEC; CCNA or GCIA or GCLD or GDSA or GFACT or CASP+ or CCNP Security or CCSP or GCED or GCIH.

Security Clearance: Secret required

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry network equipment (up to 50 lbs.) as needed.

  • Ability to work in a data center environment with exposure to various network hardware and systems.

In compliance with Colorado’s Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, the salary range for this role is $80,000 to $130,000 depending on experience and expertise; however, Sigmatech considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, experience, education/training, key skills, location and often contractual requirements.
