Department Summary:

The N111 Future Space Capabilities Department’s mission is to provide thought leadership and data driven analysis to enable the Department of the Air Force and the US Space Force to design, develop, acquire, and integrate future warfighting space force designs, including space system-of-systems architectures and space programs, in time to outpace accelerating threats.

Roles & Responsibilities:

As a Lead Space Test and Evaluation Engineer, you will serve as a subject matter expert and senior MITRE technical leader to the US Space Force. You will apply your deep knowledge of Test and Evaluation (T&E), broad systems engineering expertise to help the USSF “go fast” and deliver more resilient space systems. You’ll be on the leading edge of delivering advanced space capabilities. Your leadership and innovation will be vital to making the Sponsor successful.

Responsibilities include:

  • Serve as senior technical Test and Evaluation advisor to Space Training and Readiness Command (STARCOM), the Combined Test Force, and Space Systems Command

  • Develop the overall strategy to guide the T&E planning for the ongoing MITRE efforts in support of STARCOM and T&E squadron sponsors.

  • Conduct analysis, develop options and recommend enterprise requirements and resources needed for STARCOM’s physical and virtual test range and associated infrastructure

  • Provide systems engineering, technical expertise, and agile process implementation expertise to develop test concepts, plans, test events, and analysis

  • Conduct analysis and provide recommendations on the development of T&E processes, metrics, or procedures (Measures of Effectiveness (MOE), Measures of Suitability (MOS), Measures of Resilience (MORs), Measures of Performance (MOP), and Critical Operational Issues (COI)

  • Lead development of OT&E measures (MOE, MOP, COI) and guide technical development of Test and Evaluation Master Plans (TEMP)

  • Participate in organization and execution of operational test readiness reviews (OTRR)

  • Identify test capability gaps and provide recommendations for test infrastructure improvements and new test capability development through science and technology investments

  • Provide recommendations on annual funding investment strategies and capability roadmaps

  • Convene MITRE’s deep technical expertise to solve test challenges and improve test execution

Basic Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 6 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 3 years’ experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience

  • 5+ years systems engineering and test & evaluation experience

  • Knowledge of the JCIDS process, especially the DoD test and evaluation processes

  • Ability to conduct analysis and present findings to senior-level decision makers

  • Understanding of the roles and responsibilities of USSF and space acquisition organizations

  • TS/SCI level security clearance and the ability to be cleared for Special Access Programs

  • This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Space Control T&E experience

  • Knowledge of test range operations and infrastructure development and operations

  • Defense Acquisition Workforce Certification: Test & Evaluation Level 3

  • Currently, working in the Space Systems domain

  • Previous experience at an operational space squadron or space system program office

Salary compensation range and midpoint:

$138,500 - $173,000 - $207,500 Annual
