Gas Distribution System Operator
Colorado Springs Utilities is currently hiring a Gas Distribution System Operator responsible for performing maintenance and repair of the gas distribution system by the Department of Transportation requirements. Your expertise will be valued as you first respond to gas emergencies, troubleshoot gas distribution system pressure problems, adjust gas distribution system regulators to maintain specified safe pressures, and repair and troubleshoot gas system odorizers.
Please note that the starting rate of pay for this position is set at $44.85/hour, followed by an increase to $47.09/hour after completion of the probationary period (typically 6 months).
Key areas of responsibility:
Emergency first response and repair to damaged gas main and service lines
Building, installing, and repairing gas distribution regulator stations, gas overpressure protection devices, and related equipment
Inspecting, maintaining, and repairing system regulators
Locating, inspecting, maintaining, and repairing system emergency valves
Partner with Construction and Maintenance during routine maintenance events and emergencies
Repairing and troubleshooting gas system odorizers
Calculating proper odorant rates
Documenting regulatory and compliance inspections and repairs using computers and related software

What will it take to be successful? Qualified applicants must have a minimum of (4) years of experience working in natural gas construction, maintenance, or operations. Demonstrated experience working with odorants, and district regulators, and maintaining and repairing gas distribution system equipment is also highly preferred.
The successful candidate must possess and maintain a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), or be able to obtain one within six months of hire
This position is designated as a first responder for emergencies, thus the nature of this position requires the successful candidate to reside in the Colorado Springs Utilities’ service territory and receive at least one utility service (gas, electric, or water)
It will also require the successful candidate to pull stand-by, overtime, weekends, holidays, and 24-hour call-outs as the business needs demand. In addition, you will work in hazardous conditions, and be subject to working in inclement weather
