Job Overview

Jensen Hughes Colorado Springs is offering a very special opportunity for a highly motivated individual to join our office in support of our Wildfire Risk Mitigation, Fire + Emergency Services, and traditional Fire & Building Safety work. The preferred candidate will be someone who desires to work as a team member in a productive office environment, is a skilled technical writer, enjoys public facing engagement, and has a solid understanding of risk/hazard and is versed in traditional Fire & Building Safety elements.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and lead wildfire risk mitigation activities as part of project team.

  • Conduct building, fire/wildfire code and fire/wildfire planning reviews and analyses.

  • Desires to learn/conduct fire/wildfire behavior modelling.

  • Manage and implement a wide variety of engineering design and wildfire consulting projects.

  • Develop fire protection strategies, performance-based design approaches, and alternative solutions to resolve client design issues.

  • Conduct emergency evacuation and communication planning.

  • Evaluate healthy forests and land resource management assessments.

  • Evaluate utility wildfire hazards, risks and vulnerabilities.

  • Undertake wildfire environmental assessments.

  • Produce GIS mapping, geospatial analysis and visualization products.

  • Prepare wildfire fire protection planning and/or wildfire risk mitigation strategy reports.

  • Prepare wildfire environmental assessments and reports.

  • Prepare and present technical reports and presentations.

  • Undertake community outreach programs as part of community wildfire protection plan.

  • Satisfy client needs and expectations by completing assigned tasks on schedule and within budget.

  • Prepare and peer review of project-related technical reports.

  • Effectively communicate with project team members, clients, and others.

  • Desire to conduct public and trade organization presentations

Requirements and Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in any combination of the following – code consulting, wildfire/fire behavior modeling, wildfire/fire safety strategy and/or risk mitigation strategy development, environmental reviews, urban planning, healthy forest management, land resource management, post-fire recovery, fire/wildfire investigations and performance-based designs.

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Engineering (preferably Fire Protection), Forestry, Natural Resource Management, Urban Planning, Emergency Management, Environmental Sciences/Engineering or related field.

  • Registered Professional Engineer or other professional designation is preferred. We will also consider candidates who have significant industry experience in fire protection and code consulting, fire safety, wildfire behavior modelling, wildland firefighting, vegetation management/fuel treatment specialists, environmental consulting, healthy forest management, urban planning, or emergency management but are not on the engineering degree track.

  • Proven experience working with Codes and Standards applicable to design discipline.

  • Excellent report writing, oral communication and presentation skills.

  • Proven project management experience.

  • Experience in developing building code concepts and equivalencies, conducting building plan reviews, and conducting field reviews/inspections.

  • Ability to work well independently and to interact with other industry professionals, associated trades, and jurisdictional authorities.

National Pay Range

$86,000-$129,000USD
