Project Diakonia Construction Skills Training Assistant in Colorado Springs, Colorado

The Construction Skills Training Assistant has the opportunity to make a positive difference in the lives of students as you assist the instructor in delivering high-quality construction pre-apprenticeship certificate training. This position also provides the opportunity to grow your understanding of the construction trades and gain valuable experience with basic construction skills and competencies.

You will be part of a growing team of individuals who want to see students thrive in a variety of trades-related careers. Graduates of this course possess the required education and aptitude to obtain an entry-level position in the construction industry or to enter a Department of Labor Register Apprenticeship. As the Construction Skills Training Assistant, you will play an important role in helping students learn the importance of job site safety, how to perform math functions required by specific trades, and how to identify, operate, and maintain the basic standard tools and materials of the building trades.

You will also build relationships with students, help ensure they stay engaged with the curriculum, and get them excited about their future in the trades, and in life.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES Commit to Project Diakonia's Mission and Vision

Embrace and adhere to organizational values, policies, and procedures

Assist the instructor in delivering Home Builders Institute: Pre-Apprenticeship Certificate Training

Support the instructor in enforcing safety within the classroom and shop environment.

Develop positive relationships with students and promote engagement with the curriculum

Help track and monitor inventory of equipment and training materials

Help track and report program student progress

Attend weekly one-on-ones with your supervisor

Perform clerical functions such as making and receiving phone calls, emailing, scanning, copying, and filing

Perform other duties as assigned to achieve the organization's goals

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS Home Builders Institute: Pre-Apprenticeship Certificate Training (HBI: PACT) certificates (required)

Ability to support students in grasping the importance job site safety, how to perform math functions required by the construction trades, and how to identify, operate, and maintain the basic standard tools and materials of the building trades.

A willingness to take direction from the instructor and other program staff

An eagerness to learn and support the learning of others

Ability to support and encourage students in a collaborative environment

Detail oriented and self-motivated

Possess basic administration skills, including general clerical skills

Proficient with Microsoft applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook (preferred)

Possess strong written and verbal communication skills (preferred)

Effective interpersonal skills and ability to maintain professionalism

Ability to maintain confidentiality

Ability to exercise flexibility, tact, and diplomacy under pressure

Ability to safely perform essential job functions consistent with federal, state, and local standards

Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds

HOURS Part-time 10-12 hours per week
