Full Salary Range: W/W Treatment Plant Operator I:$20.50 - $30.75 W/W Treatment Plant Operator II: $21.95 - $32.92

Under general supervision of the W/W Treatment Lead Plant Operator, the W/W Treatment Plant Operator operates and maintains the wastewater treatment plant and collection system lift stations to provide and protect public health, safety and sanitation while ensuring compliance with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) rules and regulations. Work with potentially hazardous chemicals and in potentially hazardous work areas and environmental conditions.

Principal Duties

W/W Treatment Plant Operator I

This is the entry level class for treatment plant operations. Incumbents work under close supervision learning and performing aspects of the trade.

PRINCIPAL JOB DUTIES

  1. Operate, adjust, and maintain process control equipment including aeration systems, clarifiers, pump and flow control devices, disinfection systems, and grit and grease removal systems to maintain appropriate plant operations.
  2. Perform tests; calculate dosages and apply treatment chemicals; and ensure adequate chemical application in accordance with regulations and guidelines.
  3. Operate sludge processing equipment including gravity thickeners, digested sludge holding tanks, centrifuges, sludge application equipment, trucks, and loaders.
  4. Collect samples, keep records of activities and enter information into logbooks and a database.
  5. Operate collection system lift stations - clean, adjust and document activities, and test alarms.
  6. Perform routine, preventative, corrective and emergency maintenance on all plant structures and equipment.
  7. Generate and complete work orders using computerized maintenance management system.
  8. Perform other related duties as assigned.

W/W Treatment Plant Operator II

The W/W Treatment Plant Operator II performs all duties of the of the W/W Treatment Plant Operator I. This classification is distinguished from the entry level class in that incumbents work under limited and/or moderate supervision performing more complex skilled operations and wastewater treatment plant maintenance duties.

Qualifications

Required: High School Diploma or G.E.D equivalent

Texas Class B CDL with a tanker and air brake endorsement, or the ability to obtain within 90 days from date of hire, and ability to maintain

Ability to obtain Class D Wastewater License from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) within six (6) months of hire date, and ability to maintain

Ability to obtain Class C Wastewater License from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ within two (2) years of hire date

Available for emergency response and shift work, to include on-call duties after hours and weekends and holidays

Preferred: Knowledge of wastewater treatment plant operations including basic mathematics, biology, and chemistry.

Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of light and heavy equipment and machinery used in wastewater treatment plant operations

Knowledge of safety hazards and safe-practice standards in the work area assigned and the knowledge of how to wear and use personal protective equipment

W/W Treatment Plant Operator II candidates must meet all minimum qualifications of the W/W Treatment Plant Operator I, in addition to the following:

Required: Two (2) years experience.

Texas Class B CDL with a tanker and air brake endorsement, and ability to maintain

Class C Wastewater License from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), and ability to maintain
