Description

The College of Performance, Visualization & Fine Arts (PVFA) at Texas A&M University and the Section of Dance, Music, Performance and Theatre invite applications for one (1) Academic Professional Track Position as an Instructional Assistant Professor of Music in Bowed Strings, with a full time 9-month, non-tenure accruing academic appointment beginning Fall 2025.

Position Description:

The College of Performance, Visualization & Fine Arts seeks an individual with expertise in teaching bowed string instruments and a strong performance record. The competitive applicant will have experience teaching individual instruction in bowed string instruments in a university setting. Additionally, the applicant should be qualified to coach and direct small ensembles. Preference will be given to candidates who teach and perform in a variety of styles and diverse genres. Applicants are expected to teach standard music academic courses. The mission of PVFA places a heavy emphasis on faculty and student collaboration and interdisciplinary work, and as such, a colleague with interest in these areas is desired.

Responsibilities:

Candidates are expected to teach undergraduate courses in music (including individual instruction, ensembles, and lecture or seminar courses), assist in developing and recruiting for the music program, and contribute to academic and professional service.

The College of Performance, Visualization & Fine Arts is a College within the Texas A&M University System. It has a diverse and dynamic mission with nearly 100 faculty and more than 30 staff members and a projected exponential growth in the next 5 years. The College was formed from three departments/programs spread across the university: the Department of Visualization, the Department of Performance Studies, and the Dance Science Program. The mission of PVFA places a heavy emphasis on faculty and student collaboration and interdisciplinary work in both scholarly and creative research. Qualifications

Candidates for the Instructional Assistant Professor Position in Bowed Strings must have:

  • A terminal degree in music (DMA, DM or PhD in music) by appointment date

  • At least three years of experience in teaching in each area listed:

  • Individual instruction on bowed instruments at the university or professional level

  • Ensemble coaching at the university level

  • Standard academic music courses at the university level

  • A strong record of performance
