About the Position The R&D Engineering Laser Technician will be working with laser manufacturing equipment in a medical device environment. The individual is responsible for the effective, efficient, and safe operation of laser cutting equipment in the manufacture of components for tight tolerance and highly critical medical devices. This position is responsible for helping our customers solve complex manufacturing challenges with their knowledge in the use of lasers to manufacture and machine both metal and polymer components that will be used in medical devices. They will be able to effectively communicate with customers and demonstrate the value of the company s expertise and capabilities for laser processing. Responsibilities Program and operate various laser processing equipment. Specific responsibilities may include: Set-up beam delivery, laser and tooling Write and/or debug programs using CNC programming (including Cagila software) Operate laser machinery to process materials/parts to meet customer specifications Document/ECO changes to existing jobs (parameters, tooling, etc.) for prototypes and preproduction Perform tests, gather data, and write results/reports with assistance from Engineering Complete required traceability paperwork Read schematics, assembly drawings, data sheets to perform testing, setup fixtures, and trouble-shoot equipment. Inspect products and processes for flaws and identify areas of improvement Develop, assemble, procure or modify existing and new tooling, fixtures, and equipment to ensure efficient production methods. Utilize computer-aided design software (SolidWorks/AutoCAD) to assist with design/modification activities Assist in performing validations as required by FDA and customer on new product lines Write manufacturing processes and procedures Assist with hands on training of production employees on new products, tooling, equipment and process revisions. Assist in failure analysis, troubleshooting, rework/repair of non-conforming manufactured product to determine root cause. Comply with policies, guidelines and regulatory requirements per the VitalPath Quality Management System. Other duties as assigned
