Avista Utilities System Technician I/II/III in Coeur D'Alene, Idaho

Job DescriptionResponsible for delivery, setup, troubleshooting, repair, maintenance, and support of desktop and datacenter systems. Maintains a dedicated support region, providing frequent on-site presence for remote locations. Works directly with customer and project management office to deliver in-portfolio desktop and datacenter technology and software. Direct responsibility for providing technical support to end users. Assists Engineers as needed in developing technical solutions. Recommends technology and solutions to systemic environmental issues. Evaluates, tests, and prepares documentation for devices in the desktop and datacenter portfolio. Executes assignments under minimal direction. Performs routine maintenance as assigned. Expected to meet deadlines and budgets. Responds dynamically to user and business needs for technical resources both from a delivery and operational perspective.

Responsibilities

  • Deployment of in-portfolio technology per established procedures and processes

  • Provide excellent direct customer service with users in deploying and configuring technology

  • Execute assignments in compliance with department KPI targets

  • Provide personal support of deployed technologies through various channels; telephone, instant message, email, direct

  • Troubleshoot and determine root cause for defects and breakdowns and provide solution

  • Conduct operating system imaging and configuration, facilitates Active Directory computer and user account administration, and adhere to security guidelines and procedures

  • Assists in performing Operating System, O365, and other application patching work

  • Oversees inventory and levels for technology equipment and peripherals and processes orders for technology equipment and peripherals as reorder points are met

  • Research and resolve intermediate problems, sometimes escalated from peers

  • Make recommendations for enhancing existing technical documentation

  • Work independently with little supervision

Requirements

  • Technology troubleshooting skills and in depth understanding of the Operating System and troubleshooting methodologies

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, proven analytical problem-solving skills, and ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences

  • Experience with WWAN technologies, mobile device usage, support, and troubleshooting

  • Adherence to process and written procedures

  • Requires a valid drivers license

  • Has the ability to travel to remote locations throughout Avista's service territory with possible overnight stays

  • Preferred Certifications:

  • Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA) - Windows 10/11

  • Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA) - IT Infrastructure Track

  • CompTIA A+ Certification

  • ITIL 4 Foundation

    System Technician I:

  • High School diploma or GED. Vocational or AA degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, MIS, Mathematics, Engineering or related field preferred.

  • 1+ years Windows OS Experience, Windows Desktop/Laptop support experience, Printer support experience

    System Technician II:

  • High School diploma or GED. Vocational or AA degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, MIS, Mathematics, Engineering or related field preferred.

  • 2+ years of related experience in two or more disciplines (hardware installation/configuration, software installation/configuration, hardware/software troubleshooting, software packaging, networking, Active Directory management, mobile device support, current Windows OS Support)

  • 1 Industry recognized certifications or ability to achieve within 6 months

  • Maintain knowledge of technology hardware, operating systems, networking, and infrastructure applications – specific to assigned areas of responsibility

  • Assignments require extensive knowledge and application of concepts, principles or practices in specific discipline or several disciplines

  • Technology management skills with success in a balanced value driven customer relationship and productivity model

  • Excellent communication skills with a successful track record in a high demand, cross-functional, multi-discipline team environment

    System Technician III:

  • Vocational or AA degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, MIS, Mathematics, Engineering or related field

  • 2 Industry recognized certifications or ability to achieve within 6 months

  • 3+ years of related experience in two or more disciplines (hardware installation/configuration, software installation/configuration, hardware/software troubleshooting, software packaging, networking, Active Directory management, mobile device support, software testing, printer support, current and previous Windows OS support).

  • Knowledge of operations and delivery concepts, principles, standards, tools, techniques, system testing best practices and methodologies

  • Ability to communicate effectively with teammates; enthusiastic about providing guidance and passing on knowledge, experience, and lessons learned to team members; works well in a team environment and matrix organization

  • Ability to lead less experienced staff members in technical tasks

Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Hybrid work options are available for this role. The successful candidate will be required to work at our Spokane, Washington headquarters at least 3 days per week including Mondays and Tuesdays with an additional day determined by the employee and manager.
