Indium Corporation Material Research Chemist in Clinton, New York
JOB SUMMARY: The Material Research Chemist is responsible for material science research and will lead research projects, working actively to deliver solutions for both customers and the market by following proper testing standards and laboratory procedures. The Material Research Chemist is also responsible to assist the supervisor to finish assigned work, and to actively collaborate on laboratory, department and company needs for the development of new and/or improved processes.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (COMPETENCIES):
Understand and follow electronic industry practices in soldering, sintering, surface mount technology, semiconductor packaging, thermal interface interconnections, and other developing technologies
Conduct scientific research on development of new or improved techniques and processes for product development, operations and engineering
Conduct scientific research on material properties
Conduct characterization of materials using state of the art instrumentation for physical and chemical properties by following testing standards and laboratory procedure
Conduct laboratory scale experiments and processes to pilot plant scale trials to do proof of concept
Prepare reports on experimental findings for communication to management and create company records for advanced product quality planning
Design, implement, adjust, and finish an executable Design of Experiment (DOE) in the research project successfully
Analyze and find the root-cause of potential failures and propose a feasible solution
Process data and present the results correctly
Collaborate efficiently with Operations, Quality Assurance, Marketing, Technical Support and our Customer
Perform workforce management staffing duties and oversee the workload of staff to ensure accurate and timely completion of assignments
Supervise staff performance, including appropriate training, competency assessment, formal performance evaluations, and staff development
Attend training as needed or assigned
Perform other duties and special projects as assigned
REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum bachelor’s degree in chemistry or related technical discipline, with 6 years related technical experience required
PhD in chemistry or related field with related technical experience preferred; technical discipline defined as chemistry and material science
Effectively communicate with members of the team and the organization
Strong computing skills on data collecting and processing
Experience in safety, quality assurance, and best engineering and laboratory practices
Knowledge of DOE, Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Failure Analysis (FA)
“Hands on” machine operation and test experience
Demonstrated ability to complete a wide-variety of assignments in a manufacturing lab environment with a minimum level of support and direction
Provide own source of transportation for any local/day travel, including travel between Indium Corporation facilities

WAGE DISCLOSURE:
The salary range indicated in this posting represents the minimum and maximum of the range for the position. The actual range will vary based upon factors including, but not limited to, prior experience, knowledge, skill and education as they relate to the position’s qualifications, and internal equity.
The posted salary range reflects just one component of our total rewards package. Other components include health, dental, and vision insurance, PTO, retirement plan, volunteer opportunities, paid holidays, overtime opportunities, and many more.
$67,500 - $97,000 annually
