Hamilton College Assistant Professor of Biology in Clinton, New York

The Biology Department at Hamilton College invites applications for a tenure-track position in cell biology at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning July 1, 2025. The successful candidate will teach a uniquely themed section of introductory biology, a mid-level course in cell biology with lab, an upper-level elective in their specialty (e.g., seminar), supervise senior thesis research, and contribute to our college's interdisciplinary programs in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and/or Neuroscience. An ongoing research program involving undergraduates is expected. Research support includes start-up funds, a dedicated research laboratory, annual conference travel, a generous sabbatical leave program, and use of the extensive research facilities within the Taylor Science Center (www.hamilton.edu/academics/facilities/taylor-science-center).

We are seeking candidates with experience in teaching or working with broadly diverse student populations. The position requires institutional service, including academic advising of undergraduate students after the first year.

The Biology Department faculty is a community of active teacher-scholars dedicated to equipping students with the skills for lifelong learning in the biological sciences and advancing our understanding of the natural world through original research. Located in the Taylor Science Center, our department benefits from a space designed to promote collaborative learning among faculty and students. It includes modern research facilities such as the Microscopy and Imaging Facility (MIF) with confocal and scanning electron microscopes, a tissue culture lab, a vivarium, an aviary, and a greenhouse. Within the Taylor Science Center complex, there are over 100 teaching and student research laboratories, fostering a dynamic environment for hands-on learning and exploration. Candidates with ABD will be considered, although candidates with a Ph.D. and post-doctoral experience are preferred. The teaching load for this position is four courses during the first year and five courses thereafter. The expected base salary range (9-month) for this position is $89,800 to $96,000.
