Position Purpose

The Foundation Secretary/Volunteer Coordinator will perform accounting and office procedures and handle Annual Fund/donor prospecting to support the work of the Executive Vice President of Mercy Healthcare Foundation. Responsible for coordinating the day-to-day activities and responsibilities associated with MercyOne Clinton volunteer services. Monitors, facilitates and trains all assigned volunteers to ensure all meet the necessary requirements for all regulatory bodies. Provides leadership, direction and coordination for all aspects of the services and programs of the Volunteer Services department. Serves as the Auxiliary liaison. Build and maintain relationships with volunteers, staff, patients, guests and the community. Assist in the organizational development efforts to support an engaging environment as part of MercyOne Clinton culture.

What You Will Do

  • Performs clerical duties.

  • Maintains an accurate accounting and acknowledgment system for contributions.

  • Provides monthly reports on foundation income and expenses.

  • Mails pledge reminders in a timely manner.

  • Processes payment of Foundation bills.

  • Maintains good working rapport with Board of Directors, committee members, donors, medical staff, administrative staff, employees, auxiliary, auditors, community and civic leaders, and the general public.

  • Assists in the promotion of Foundation activities and special events.

  • Coordinate recruitment, placement and orientation of volunteers per standards. Schedule work and assign priorities for assigned volunteers.

  • Develop core orientation modules for volunteer orientations.

  • Identify new volunteer position opportunities and write service descriptions for those positions.

  • Establishes positive relationships and communicates effectively with all volunteers.

  • Supervise assigned volunteers.

  • Screen volunteers as appropriate.

  • Organize and direct Volunteer Services department.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School graduate or the equivalent. Bachelor's Degree preferred.

  • Minimum one year bookkeeping / accounting experience.

  • Minimum two-year business or secretarial degree.

  • Must have excellent typing and computational skills, computer and word processing abilities.

  • Knowledge of office machines.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Experience working with volunteers.

  • Valid Driver's License and proof of auto insurance.

  • Ability to interact with diverse populations in a positive manner. Ability to deal effectively with problems and exercise good judgment when making decisions. Positive attitude, strong customer services skills and the ability and desire to work as a positive team member.

  • Ability to set priorities and handle many different tasks.

  • Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.

  • Must possess a personal presence that is characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity, and caring with the ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the philosophy, mission and vision, goals, and values of Trinity Health.
