Job Responsibilities:

Perform the following geotechnical and dams engineering tasks:

  • Perform engineering activities throughout all phases of a project lifecycle, including field inspections, subsurface explorations, evaluation, analysis, design, and engineering services during construction.

  • Prepare and review design calculations, engineering reports, construction drawings and technical specifications.

  • Work as a team member within the Albany, NY office and across other Schnabel offices to effectively balance workload among available resources.

  • Willingness and ability to perform field work and travel, including assignments that may last several weeks or months away from the office. Field work might include:

  • Collection of data and measurements.

  • Observation and logging of geotechnical test borings.

  • Observation of construction activities, and testing materials such as soil, concrete, asphalt, masonry and reinforcing steel.

  • Communication with contractors, engineers, and project managers.

Required Skills/Experience:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program is required.

  • A Master’s Degree is preferred, but not required.

  • 0-3 years of professional experience.

  • Relevant work experience/background in geotechnical and/or dam safety engineering is preferred.

  • Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification, and future ability to become a Licensed Professional Engineer.

  • A strong work ethic and the desire to perform professionally at a high level.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Critical thinking and the ability to begin and progress designs.

  • A commitment to being an active participant in our office culture.

  • Positive attitude and ability to work well in a team environment.

  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, and flexible to changes in work assignments as changes occur in project needs.

  • Time management and organizational skills.

Other Requirements:

  • Candidates must have a valid driver’s license.

  • Ability to pass a background check which may include criminal history, motor vehicle record, and credit check.

  • Ability to lift 60 pounds and be physically able to negotiate construction sites, enter trenches, climb ladders, and work outside.

  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening.

The compensation range for a Staff Engineer is between $57,200 to $86,000. Compensation for this position may vary based on geographic location and other factors. We remain committed to providing competitive and equitable compensation to all employees, regardless of their location.
