Job Description:

This exciting position is for a Mechanical Engineer to work with technical staff to develop Electronic Warfare (EW) CCA, LRU and POD electronic packaging designs from concept through production, and to provide mechanical support for production.

The position will require performing the mechanical engineering activities related to the design, analysis, documentation, processing, fabrication, assembly, and qualification of EW product to specification requirements typically with stringent technical, schedule, and process requirements. The candidate will also be responsible for production support including MRB and ECN activity to support the product and working with manufacturing for initial work instructions for new products.

The candidate should have experience in design of detail parts and assemblies, preferably related to electronic packages. Experience in CAD tools is required, in particular CREO. Prefer experience with drawing practices per ANSI Y14. Require experience in machine shop practices, design for assembly, manufacturing tooling and test. Experience in environmental qualification of product including familiarity with Mil-STD-810, DO160 and RCC 319 is desired. Experience in writing test procedures and reports and preparing documentation for and presenting at PDR, CDR and TRR functions is required.

Essential Functions:

  • Primary engineering responsibility for mechanical design tasks such as requirements analysis, specification generation, interface definition, component selection, component 3D CAD modeling, data collection, thermal and structural engineering analysis, Product documentation

  • Generation of Technical Data Package components (Part and Assembly drawings, electrical harness drawings, system level RF and comms drawings, Installation/outline customer drawings, etc.)

  • Support development of test plans and procedures for mechanical subsystems.

  • Perform test and evaluation of component parts and systems

  • Participate in peer reviews, PDRs, CDRs, and other required design reviews

  • Participate in product change review meetings and discussions and implement changes

  • Participate in interdisciplinary design teams and reviews

  • Other tasks as assigned

    Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering and minimum 2 years of prior relevant experience or a Graduate Degree (MS/PhD) and a minimum of 0-2 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 6 years of prior related experience.

  • CAD experience, PTC CREO/Windchill

  • Experience with thermal and vibration/shock analysis with electronic systems

  • Experience in design of detail parts and assemblies

  • Understanding and experience with ASME Y14.5M-1994 and GD&T

  • Experience in writing test procedures and reports and preparing documentation for and presenting at PDR, CDR and TRR functions is required.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance

    Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Experience with electronic system design, materials and processes

  • Experience with machined, plastic and sheet metal part design

  • Design for Manufacturability and Assembly (DFM/DFMA) experience

  • Experience with Project Management and a wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected, including the ability to multi-task in an environment with changing priorities

  • Proficiency in MS Office suite

  • Effectively communicate issues/problems and results that impact timelines, accuracy, and reliability of project data
