SERV Behavioral Health System Peer Recovery Specialist - Mental Health in Clifton, New Jersey

SERV, a well-established leader in behavioral healthcare in New Jersey, supports people with mental illness and/or intellectual/developmental disabilities as they achieve greater independence and life satisfaction through a wide range of services.

We are looking for looking to hire full-time Peer Recover Specialist who will Interact regularly with clinical staff, RN/APN/NP and the Psychiatrist regarding client issues and the provision of care.

JOB SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Director, the Peer Recovery Specialist is responsible for conducting screenings and referrals for substance use, co-occurring, and ancillary services. This position acts as a liaison between the consumers, community programs, services, and community members. Utilizing their experiences in recovery, the Peer Recovery Specialist works with consumers to instill a message of hope and share experiential knowledge. Services include one-on-one peer mentoring, peer led support groups, telephone outreach, assisting consumers in accessing community resources, services, and affiliation with recovery support social activities. Some evening and weekend hours may be required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides mentoring peer led support groups, telephone outreach, and support to individuals in recovery. Shares and instills a message of hope, and shares experiential knowledge.

  • Provides one-on-one peer mentoring, groups, telephone outreach to consumers in need.

  • Assists consumers in accessing community resources, services, and affiliation with recovery support activities outside of SERV.

  • May assist with conducting assessments and intakes.

  • Identifies appropriates consumers for participation in groups or services.

  • Effectively provides psycho-educational groups, as assigned.

  • Demonstrates ability to develop professional therapeutic relationships.

  • Tracks medical, behavioral, substance use, and other network referrals made for consumers to ensure their follow-up and attendance to appointments.

  • Provides phone and physical outreach to consumers who have not adhered to necessary treatment appointments or have missed appointments.

  • Provides outreach to consumers to ensure appropriate follow-up regarding self-care, medications, prior authorizations, service plan adherence, scheduled office visits, test results/lab work, outside records, and all other pertinent psycho-social issues.

  • When applicable, assists consumers with insurance or other benefits to ensure they remain active and in place.

  • Completes or assists in the completion of any documents/forms needed by the consumer or for the consumer’s record.

  • Work collaboratively with all members of the multidisciplinary team and external service providers/referrals.

    EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILL & ABILITY:

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.

  • Certification as a Certified Recovery Specialist (CRS)

  • Valid driver’s license

  • Knowledge of current principles and practices of behavioral healthcare, substance use and mentally ill.

  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and follow-up skills.

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.

  • Strong organizational and follow-up skills.

  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize competing demands and thrive in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to make independent decisions and sound judgements.
