Ohio Means Jobs Cleveland Cuyahoga County is sourcing for a Security/Monitoring position. The Monitor in a low demand shelter is responsible for the overall functioning of the shelter, including maintaining a peaceful, safe, supportive, and orderly environment. The position serves single adults who are homeless and includes basic orientation (services, rules, & policies), assistance with basic immediate needs, de-escalating conflict, and being a stable, welcoming presence. Essential Job Responsibilities A. Monitoring Activities of Residents • Monitors client and visitor movement inside facility. • Responsible for rule enforcement and assisting in the daily needs of shelter residents. including making • Conduct rounds, security checks, and perform searches as needed. Immediately reports abnormal findings to shift supervisor or Director of Operations. • Handle front desk duties, including enrolling new residents in the shelter data system, scanin residents, enforce bans, and utilize appropriate security measures (such as metal detector, wanding, handling contraband). • Monitors security cameras to ensure clients are complying with policies regulating conduct. • Interacts with clients professionally, using open and respectful communication. • Intervenes as necessary to protect clients from injuring themselves, other clients, staff and shelter property • De-escalates potentially volatile situations between clients when necessary, utilizing Handle With Care's intervention strategies. B. Completing Documentation. • Prepares incident/accident/injury reports as necessary. • Maintains detailed records of events that occur during the shift. • Promptly reports equipment malfunctions. C. Facility, Safety & Security Assistance • Maintains the overall security and operational control of the facility • Ensures clients observe all fire and other safety measures. • Executes emergency evacuation procedures. • Ensuring residents have sheets, towels, hygiene items. • Facilitating meal service. Other Job Responsibilities • Works cooperatively with all staff members of the shelter, arriving to work on time and transitioning shift control appropriately for all scheduled shifts. • Actively participates in departmental staff meetings, training, brings concerns and solutions forward, and contributes to continuous quality improvement. • Actively participates in quality improvement activities of the program/agency • Maintain high standards of ethical and professional conduct in terms of privacy of client information and adherence to confidentiality policies & upholds the service philosophy • Comply with policies and procedures governing the program and agency and consults with appropriate administrative staff regarding issues posing potential risk • Build and maintain positive relationships with peers and other programs and departments within the organization • Perform other duties as assigned that support the mission of the agency Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities* • Ability to communicate in a direct but non-threatening manner. • Good verbal and written communication • Team player • Will be required to certify in NARCAN administration, verbal de-escalation, non-lethal physical restraint training and other safety/life saving techniques. NOTE: Being certified in Handle With Care (HWC) is a requirement of this position. At a* minimum, candidates must be able to physically perform a level #1 restraint (Standing PRT).
