The Sherwin-Williams Company R&D Technician in Cleveland, Ohio

This position is responsible for the research and development support of products in the Consumer Brands Group within the Building Materials Lab. This individual will provide technical leadership and support for the Building Materials Team with the primary focus on H&C and Valspar concrete coatings with additional opportunities to support White Lightning, Sherwin Branded Caulk, Geocel Sealants, Uniflex & Kool Seal roof coatings as needed. This position is accountable for routine experiments, recording results, and demonstrating basic knowledge of raw materials and basic equipment/computing tools to capture and record data. Has familiarity with scientific principles, products and/or processes. This individual performs basic tasks outlined by manager with progress and results checked regularly. This person leads individual or groups projects and begins to draw conclusions. This individual creates and updates reports, designs, executes and plan projects. This individual seeks assistance on setting priorities for scheduling, organizes time efficiently and recognizes routine experiments and selects proper, simple procedures for obtaining desired results to solve problems. Job duties include contact with other employees and access confidential and proprietary information and/or other items of value, and such access may be supervised or unsupervised. Responsibilities Include: Performing lab testing including scale ups, test method testing and heat age stability Support of routine experiments, recording results and learning basic knowledge of equipment/computing tools to capture and record data Communication within the project team regarding project needs and status Developing basic knowledge and understanding of processing and raw materials Executes and analyzes experiments and provides regular updates Establishes timeline for assignments based on priorities with assistance from their supervisor. Identifies and resolves hurdles. Writes basic reports, outlines procedures used, and results obtained. Recognizes problems and implements corrective actions to resolve the issue. Analyzes data, begins to draw conclusions, and make recommendations. Proficient in operating moderately complex lab instruments. Other duties as assigned BASIC QUALIFICATION * Must be legally authorized to work in the country for which you are applying for employment (without now or in the future needing sponsorship for employment work visa and/or permanent residence status). FORMAL EDUCATION: Required: * Must be at least 18 years of age * Must have a High School Diploma KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE: Required: * Must be able to work at lab bench for 6-8 hours per day. * Strong communication skills (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills. * Excellent organization and planning skills. * 1 year experience in a lab setting. Preferred: * Ability to interact effectively with various levels of technical experience. TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: 10% Upon completion of construction, the individual selected for this role will primarily work at the new Sherwin-Williams Global Technology Center in Brecksville, Ohio. Construction is expected to be complete in Q4 2024. Until then, the role will be based at 4440 Warrensville Center Rd, Warrensville Heights, OH 44128.
