AeroControlex Group, Inc Product Design Engineer - Pumps in Cleveland, Ohio

The Product Engineer is responsible for designing, qualifying and maintaining legacy and new business fuel, hydraulic, coolant, lube/scavenge pump assemblies for use in the Aerospace and Military industry. The Product Engineer is responsible for researching and developing ideas and processes for new products from cradle to grave. Other key responsibilities will be to improve existing products, support production team to solve problems in a timely, cost effective manner, create technical proposals and test documents. The product engineer shall have basic financial understanding of the cost of production (machined and purchased parts) to assist in the costing of the final assembly. Interacts with customers timely and efficiently.

Responsibilities:

  • Organizes engineering related functions necessary to the support of the company's pump product lines
  • Assists department activities to design new products and develop future technologies.  Monitors trends and advancements in aviation and ground support technology and advises Marketing on necessary development or directions
  • Modify existing designs, improve production techniques, develop engineering specifications and test procedures, select materials and components, and the preparation of operating and maintenance instructions and other product literature
  • Works with engineering test lab and outside prototype/test labs.  Coordinates the engineering efforts with other engineering services within the company
  • Confers with management staff, manufacturing, marketing, quality control and other related departments to determine engineering feasibility, cost effectiveness, and customer demand for new and existing products
  • Reviews product design for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, customer contract requirements, and related specifications. Evaluates and approves design changes, specification reviews, final review and approval of drawing releases, specifications, test plans and reports, and engineering orders
  • Provides and coordinates technical support with customers 
  • Provides information and assistance in resolving manufacturing and field problems. Coordinates with marketing, manufacturing, quality control and other related departments. May provide field support, product engineering to customers and vendors, engineering analysis of returned products and product failures
  • Oversees the preparation of documents such as QTPs, QTRs, ATPs etc.
  • Works with MRB to disposition non-compliant product
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Five years plus of experience related to product design engineering and/or project management
  • Must understand data, and possess exceptional analytical and problem solving abilities
  • Must be a 'hands-on' type individual, with the ability to interface on the shop floor, engineering lab, leadership and customers
  • Must be able to develop and align business plans with quantifiable requirements and actions
  • Proven self-starter and action oriented
  • Strong oral and written communication
  • Customer service focused
  • Capable of evaluating concepts using standard engineering practices (FEA, FMEA, GD&T, etc...)
  • Strong CAD (Solid Works) abilities
  • Experience in hydraulics field including vane, gear, gerotor and centrifugal pumps preferred
  • Ansys CFD and FEA experience/familiarity is a plus
  • Electric motor/controller experience is a plus.
  • Aerospace experience is a plus
  • Minimum fluids and/or pumps experience is a plus
  • Ability to travel (domestic/international) 10-15%

Education:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering preferred
