Job Summary:

Provides assistance in daily living skills and management of medication to persons served in the Residential Services program. The Certified Direct Support Professional (CDSP) should embrace the JFSA Achieving Potential philosophy and mission: to help people with mental illness and developmental disabilities achieve greater independence and inclusion.

 

Supervision Exercised: No supervision of staff.

 

Duties and Responsibilities: · Serves as an advocate for persons served; assessing wants and needs and facilitating communication with their Individual Service Planning (ISP) team. · Provides supervision and assistance to persons served at home and in the community. · Ensures the safety, well being, and quality of life for all persons served. Protects persons served from injury to themselves and others. · Ensures delivery and documentation of persons served' services listed on ISP and reports all vital information to the Site Manager. · Assists, monitors, and supervises persons served with basic personal hygiene care. Demonstrates activities such as bathing and dressing to train persons served in daily self-care practices. · Assists persons served with the management of all medications. · Assists persons served with performing household services, such as cooking, cleaning, shopping, etc.). · Transports and monitors persons served to and from various activities. · Performs housekeeping duties as scheduled or on an as needed basis. · Demonstrates awareness of, follows all safety policies and procedures, and adheres to all recommended safe work practices. Also contributes to the control of hazards in specified area of responsibility. · Performs other duties or special projects as required or as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

Educational/Training Requirements: · High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Experience:

· Relevant direct care experience

· 4,160 hours in the Developmental Disabilities field as a Direct Support Professional.

 

Licenses/Certifications:

· Completion of the Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities (DODD) 60-hour

Competency-Based Training and Longevity Add-On program in addition to essential

required training.

· Ensures all essential training requirements are completed, i.e., annual training, CPR/First

Aid, certified medication passing, etc.

· Annually, DSPs complete 2 hours of training required by the DODD using the DODD

supplied materials:

· "National Alliance for Direct Support Professionals" code of ethics

· Rights of individuals set forth in section 5123.62 of the Revised Code

· Empathy-based care

· Annually, DSPs and Supervisors of DSPs will complete an additional 6 hours of training

on:

· Major Unusual Incidents (MUI)/Unusual Incidents (UI)

· Recognizing and reporting MUIs/UIs

· Agency-specific data regarding MUIs

· Strategies for preventing MUIs

· Review of the health and welfare alerts issued by the DODD since previous year's

training

· Components of Quality Care, Health and Safety, and Positive Behavioral Support

· Staff are given training on topics relevant to their specific site. For example: Staff

working in the home of an individual with diabetes may receive 30 minutes or annual

training on healthy eating

· Maintain both a valid Ohio Drivers License, and a driving record that meets JFSA's

insurance company standards (i.e., no more than 2 incidents over a 3-year period) in

addition to DODD nonmedical transportation rule (i.e. less than 6 points over a 2 year

period).

· Maintain personal auto liability insurance at the level that the Agency and the insurance

carrier require.

· Must have a reliable personal automobile available on a daily basis
