MetroHealth Correctional Medicine - Cuyahoga County Detention Center in CLEVELAND, Ohio

The MetroHealth Medical System is an integrated health system with an acute care hospital housing a Level I Adult Trauma and Burn Center, a skilled nursing facility and more than 25 locations throughout northeastern Ohio. It is an outstanding public, safety-net academic medical system affiliated with Case Western Reserve University and provides medical, pharmacy, dental, behavioral health, and vision services to diverse underserved communities in Cuyahoga County/Cleveland Ohio and surrounding areas. There is a strong tradition of interprofessional, integrated care service delivery models, an APA-accredited doctoral clinical psychology internship, and a robust post-doctoral fellowship program. Psychologists at MetroHealth are full members of the medical staff and have faculty appointments at Case Western Reserve University.

MetroHealth Correctional Medicine is seeking a full-time Psychologist at the Cuyahoga County Jail. The primary responsibilities will include providing empirically-based psychological services (e.g., diagnostic assessment and intervention) to individuals diagnosed with a wide variety of medical and psychiatric disorders. This position will also require:

  • facilitating individual and group therapy

  • conducting client assessment crisis intervention

  • applying drug-treatment services

  • contributing to employee-assistance programs

  • conducting initial and developmental mental health screenings

Candidates must have a PhD/PsyD in Clinical or Counseling Psychology from an APA-accredited program. Postdoctoral experience in Health Psychology is preferred. Candidates must be license-eligible in Ohio and must be licensed by the date of hire.

Responsibilities

· Administers, scores, and interprets individual psychological tests or test batteries for purposes of crisis intervention, neuropsychological issues, risk assessment, severe behavioral management cases, treatment, and programming

· Participates in hearings as assigned and assessments for potential suicide

· As a member of the interdisciplinary team, responsible for development and implementation of mental health interventions (e.g., psychological, social and substance abuse) for a caseload of offenders/patients with mental illness

· Conducts individual and group clinical interventions as prescribed on the individual mental health treatment plan using clinical intervention strategies within their scope of practice

· Provides mental health liaison services to an assigned caseload, including the monitoring of the offender compliance with the mental health treatment plan

· Completes detailed screens, mental health evaluations and crisis services within their scope of practice

· Writes reports and/or documents to include documentation of all offender contacts, mental health liaison progress note entries, discharge plans and miscellaneous forms and reports as needed

· Completes psychosocial needs and treatment assessments as part of interdisciplinary treatment planning

· Completes transfer and discharge summaries and pre-parole clinical risk assessments and treatment summaries

· Consults with other institution staff regarding the mental health caseload, inmate institutional adjustment and service needs

· Attends meetings of psychology clinical case consultation

· Attends and instructs in-service training sessions and workshops for professional development

· Conducts various institution and program audit functions

Acts as lead worker over lower-level psychological services staff and provides clinical supervision only to psychology assistants and interns in accordance with the State Board of Psychology rules within the level of training and competency of these psychology assistants and interns

Ø Provide clinical and academic leadership for a team of behavioral health providers and ensure processes that support clinical activities and quality outcomes.

Ø Conduct psychological individual and group evaluations and treatments as part of an interprofessional team.

Ø Participate in the design and evaluation of outcomes of patients served.

Ø Collaborate on education and program development initiatives to advance behavioral health services.

Ø Join the Psychology Training Committee and supervise trainees on the inpatient adolescent Serious Persistent Mental Illness rotations. Participate in didactic seminars and supervise clinical staff, psychology post-doctoral fellows, interns and graduate trainees.

Ø Participate in interprofessional education of psychiatry, medical, nursing, social work, and counseling trainees.

HOURS : This is a full-time (40 hours/week) position. MetroHealth offers a competitive salary and benefit package.

QUALIFICATIONS :

Ø Doctorate in psychology from an APA-accredited college or university program with an emphasis in clinical/counseling psychology

Ø Doctoral internship in clinical/counseling/health psychology from an APA-accredited program

Ø Completion of a psychology post-doctoral fellowship in health psychology

Ø Current, valid, unrestricted licensure to practice as a Psychologist in Ohio by start date

Ø Candidates must also be board certified or eligible for board certification from the American Board of Professional Psychology.

Ø Background and experience in training, program development and collaborative research

Ø Training and experience in the Health Psychology

Ø Experience with diverse patient populations.

Ø Bilingual in Spanish is desirable, but not required.

Preference will be given to those with experience providing empirically-based psychological interventions with medical populations, consulting with medical staff, and performing medically-specialized psychological evaluations.
