Content Manager – Sports Betting & iGaming

This is a remote-based position

Advance Local is looking for a Full-Time Content Manager to oversee the planning, development and distribution of content across various digital platforms (web, mobile, social media) in support of our growing Sports Betting & iGaming business. Content is specific to sports betting, casinos, sweepstakes, and lottery.

This position will manage day-to-day story budgeting, staff schedules and other work-flow systems; day-to-day supervision of both full-time and part-time reporters, including story assignment, story editing and feedback; and performance-based metrics for team and individual employees.

The salary for this position is $90,000 - $100,000 per year. (40 hours/week)

Ideal candidates will have a strong understanding of SEO and a business mindset geared toward driving significant and sustainable audience and revenue through best journalistic practices.

We want a manager who is motivated and excited at the thought of growing a brand as well as expanding their journalistic skillset. You should be passionate and knowledgeable about all major sports and have a keen interest in online wagering. Reacting quickly to breaking sports news and potentially jumping in and doing some writing is part of the job, too. This position also involves daily tracking of key metrics to ensure content is performing to goal.

You should apply if you have:

  • Managerial experience in a newsroom or equivalent environment

  • Editing experience in a newsroom or equivalent environment

  • Experience in sports writing and/or writing about online wagering

  • Experience in commerce and affiliate marketing or revenue-generating initiatives

  • A passion for informing readers, building audiences, and generating revenue

  • Familiarity with SEO best practices

  • A passion for digesting data and understanding audience metrics

  • The ability to work independently and prioritize appropriately

  • A competitive nature and mindset

  • Strong organizational skills and poise to multi-task, meet deadlines, and manage multiple complex projects to on-time delivery

  • Ability to quickly pick up technology solutions

  • Ability to work weekends, weeknights, and holidays when necessary

Required education, experience, and skills

  • Degree in journalism, English or communications, or related field, or a combination of equivalent education and experience

  • Minimum 5 years’ journalism experience with a proven ability in developing and directing projects/programs

  • Minimum 3 years’ management experience and demonstrated ability leading multi-disciplinary teams

  • Solid track record of successfully developing projects through launch

  • Experience building, maintaining, and engaging an active audience

  • Strong familiarity with the sports and/or the online wagering industry

  • Ability to work independently under deadline pressure and prioritize tasks appropriately

  • Proven reporting, writing, editing, and organizational skills

  • Solid understanding of news writing, journalism ethics and story structure

  • Experience with search engine optimization practices and the ability to leverage the relationship between technology and customer data and insight to create engaging and optimized content

  • Experience using social media to source and promote content

  • High proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Teams, and Slack

  • Proficiency with content management platform Arc preferred

  • Demonstrated capability in capitalizing on high-value topics by engaging audiences in frequency and urgency
