PREFORMED LINE PRODUCTS COMPANY Building Services Assistant in Cleveland, Ohio

Assists with Building Services, which includes Shipping and Receiving, select maintenance activity, and mechanical laboratory testing.  Also provides administrative assistance to Building Services Supervisor. *Essential Functions: *

  • Provides clerical assistance to the Building Services Manager.  Helps with documentation and file management.
  • Helps coordinate outside contractual maintenance services in conjunction with Building Services Manager.
  • Provides select building maintenance assistance as directed by Building Services Manager.
  • Maintains a file on receiving reports and returns and shipping documentation.
  • Reviews, posts, and updates all incoming materials on receiving reports and verifies the proper documents for Purchasing and Accounting. Also maintains appropriate records of materials when delivered to PLP personnel.
  • Contacts freight companies and makes out proper paperwork on items being returned along with items shipped from World Headquarters. Negotiates for best rates on air and truck deliveries.
  • Unloads all trucks for incoming materials, by hand or by lift truck.
  • Opens all incoming packages for packing slips and identification of materials, quantities, etc.
  • Directs or delivers incoming packages to individuals in the building, including the day-to-day mailroom responsibilities. 
  • Handles claims regarding damages on incoming freight. (Instructed by Purchasing Department.
  • Contacts vendors for verification of shipments or pickups, tracks down PLP individuals on items that have been picked up at the vendor, and tracks down the proper documents.
  • Puts together and closes out purchase orders on all indirect items and services.
  • Assists all department in tracing shipments and checks overdue orders for indirect items.
  • Oversees and maintains recycling program, including oil, scrap, and waste pickup.
  • Sets up conference rooms and mezzanine for business meetings and lunches.
  • Trained for Certified HAZMAT handling and documentation regulations.
  • Handle all shipping responsibilities for product going out of facility (proper packaging, paperwork, labeling).
  • Assists with additional items incidental to the function of the maintenance operations.
  • Assist with snow removal on property.

* Qualifications and Requirements:*

  • High school diploma, with capable skills in mathematics, reading, and writing with some specialized schooling.
  • Minimum of two years of experience with industrial shipping and receiving procedures.
  • Experience with mechanical laboratory environment preferred.
  • Ability to use a computer and applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Computer experience with hands-on knowledge of software packages, including IFS, spread sheets, and word processing.
  • Must possess good hands-on mechanical skills involving use of select machine-shop equipment, hand tools, and lab equipment.
  • Good organizational skills.
