Research Animal Husbandry Technician (AHT) II

Research AHT caregivers monitor and care for the health and well-being of research animals at Cleveland Clinic and support foundational pre-clinical research that will one day improve the lives of patients around the world.

A caregiver in this position works days/evenings/nights/weekends from 6:00am - 2:30pm or 7:00am-4:00pm.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Perform daily health observations and monitor the condition of research animals.

  • Provide custodial care, fresh feed and fresh water to animals.

  • Receive animal shipments and complete required documentation.

  • Ensure that areas used for technical procedures are well maintained and supplied.

  • Transport supplies, equipment and animals to and from various locations.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • High school diploma or GED.

  • Willing to be trained to properly handle all species of animals housed within the department.

  • Must have a valid Ohio Driver's license and a good, safe driving record to drive a CC vehicle.

  • One year of experience or demonstrated equivalent experience in the custodial care of animals or AALAS certification.

  • Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and can work with minimal supervision.

  • Can make quick decisions, identify options and take appropriate action.

  • Understand and follow detailed scientific or medical instructions given by investigators and/or veterinarians.

  • Can work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

  • Flexible and complete the job before leaving work. Animal care is a 7-day per week, 365-days per year job.

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT), Laboratory Animal Technician (LAT), or Laboratory Animal Technologist (LATG) certifications from American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS).

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and transport equipment and/or animals weighing up to 75 pounds using carts with casters.

  • Capable of tolerating a significant amount of standing, bending and walking.

  • May be required to work with biological, chemical and radiation hazards after proper training

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Pay Range

Minimum hourly: $15.75

Maximum hourly: $21.65

The pay range displayed on this job posting reflects the anticipated range for new hires. While the pay range is displayed as an hourly rate, Cleveland Clinic recruiters will clarify whether the compensation is hourly or salary. A successful candidate's actual compensation will be determined after taking factors into consideration such as the candidate's work history, experience, skill set, and education.
