Job Title: Survey Party Chief

Position Location: St. Petersburg, FL

Job Description:

Johnson Brothers Company has an immediate opening and is seeking candidates for the position of Survey Party Chief. The ideal candidate would possess the experience and skills in heavy civil construction to enable them to function autonomously at times. The candidate needs to be experienced with construction layout means and methods, calculations and equipment, CAD/ computer skills would be a plus. In this position the candidate would work with and under the leadership of the Project Manager, Chief Surveyor and Project Surveyor. Performing and aiding in construction layout, performing and checking calculations, and maintaining survey equipment.

Skills and Experience:

  • Heavy civil construction experience

  • Ability to perform layout calculations

  • Carlson Surveyor 2 data collector experience

  • Carlson surveying software experience

  • Robotic total stations

  • RTK GPS

  • Auto levels

  • Note keeping

  • Strong verbal communication ability

  • Able to work well in a team environment

  • 3+ years surveying experience

    Requirements:

  • High School Diploma; Certified Survey Technician (CST) is a plus

  • Must have an acceptable driving record

  • Understanding of tri-pod, basic equipment usage, basic calibration, and accurate at measuring

  • Must have a steady hand for measurement purposes

  • Must be able to work at heights, wade through water, ride in a boat and climb difficult terrain

  • Ability to travel and work in all weather conditions

  • Follows direction adequately

  • Operates total stations, data collection, etc.

  • Possess basic survey skills

  • Basic CAD and GPS skills necessary

    Other Skills and Abilities

  • Must be able to legally work in the United States.

  • Must be willing to work in a drug-free environment and agree to a post offer drug test.

  • Must be willing to work safely and keep OSHA recordable incidents to a minimum.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of industry standards and specialty bridge design software; must be proficient with MS Office.

  • Good verbal and written communication skills. Ability to effectively plan and organize to meet project deadlines.

    None, but must work well with other project staff

    Language Skills

    Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

    Mathematical Skills

    Ability to work with mathematical concepts related to structural engineering and related calculations. Individual should some level of business acumen, including knowledge of operating expenses, profit, etc. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

    Reasoning Ability

    Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

    Computer Skills

    To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software, reporting tools related to databases. Must have the ability to learn design software programs.
