In NC, we operate three pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities that are responsible for fulfilling different steps in our injectable and oral treatment supply chains. Our legacy Injectable Finished Products (IFP) facility in Clayton, NC is a 457,000 square foot aseptic "fill and finish" site that is responsible for producing innovative, injectable diabetes and obesity treatments.     The Position

    Manage project purchasing activities (i.e. tendering, conditions of contract, bid evaluation and clarification, contract preparation and negotiation) in large investment projects. Act as communication link between Investment, Engineering & Sourcing (IES) and investment projects stakeholders. Act as sourcing responsible and follow standardized procedures for undertaking tendering according to Good Procurement Practices.

    Essential Functions

  • Manage procurement activities which, among other tasks include supplier selection in agreement with our category managers, executing tendering processes, bid clarification and evaluation, terms & conditions and contract preparation and negotiations

  • Full commercial responsibility for the procurement of assigned goods and services

  • Operate the department in compliance with approved SOP’s & company policies & procedures

  • Manage suppliers to achieve planned outcomes based on business needs & drive on-going improvement in supplier performance

  • Ensure balance between the business and project objectives in regards to triple bottom line, risk assessment and deliveries in a complex setting

  • Ensure total cost views are considered in major investment project and challenge these if projects have not been viewed from a total cost perspective

  • Utilize knowledge of suppliers relative positioning & market trends & activities to build competitive advantage into purchasing practices

  • Provide supplier and contract data to Category Managers in order to fulfil IES’s ambition on high quality data on the IES Supplier List

  • Oversee local supplier onboarding, contract management, coverage & compliance

  • Responsible for analyzing and developing business opportunities, procurement strategies and plans for the procurement activities & obtain buy-in on from relevant stakeholders on all levels within the company

  • Identifies, pursues, & maximizes opportunities for realizing cost savings without sacrificing the quality, service & reliability expected of our suppliers

  • Develop & maintain internal & external stakeholder relationships

  • Support investment projects and Line of Business with pros and cons in relation to the procurement alternatives

  • Supports the Supplier Diversity program & promotes the inclusion of diverse suppliers in all sourcing initiatives

  • Ensure that non-financial objectives are also considered. E.g. Circular for Zero and Responsible Sourcing

  • Interfaces with IES in Denmark to ensure optimal use of procurement systems & US involvement in global sourcing projects & related efforts

  • Consider new tools, theory and methodology for optimizing worldwide processes, sourcing and/or supplier relationships

  • Contribute to development of the IES Supplier base

  • Generally, support department development activities and colleagues by sharing better practices

  • Follow all safety & environmental requirements in the performance of duties

  • Other accountabilities, as assigned

    Physical Requirements

    Ability to work in an open office environment with the possibility of frequent distraction. Ability to travel up to 10% of the time. (% can change on a case-by-case basis based on the role.)

    Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in economics, Engineering, Business, Finance, Procurement, Accounting, Purchasing or similar field from an accredited university required

  • Minimum of seven (7) years progressively responsible experience in sourcing/procurement or project management in capital investment projects required

  • Procurement management responsibilities from positions in North America and internationally preferred

  • Experience from the pharmaceutical industry or other regulated industries preferred

  • Proven knowledge of strategic good procurement / engineering practices and their application to the purchase of equipment and services preferred

  • Experience with development of procurement tools and templates and ability to develop strategies within technical procurement preferred

  • Strong negotiation sills & contracting skills preferred

  • Experience in supporting a team towards specific goals and defining new objectives for constant improvement of business procedures preferred

  • Able to challenge specific projects and develop alternative solutions preferred

  • Ability to build and maintain good working relationships & possess excellent people skills as well as a profound understanding of quality, time and stakeholder management preferred

  • Solid verbal, written communication, and presentation skills required

  • Solid analytical skills and a significant practical experience in analyzing complex numbers and issues preferred

  • Solid process improvement & problem-solving skills preferred

  • Ability to develop & manage action plans to achieve targets required
