The Director of Operational Excellence provides strategic thought and direction to support the operational activities and lead improvement strategy for a Grifols manufacturing site, including the development and management of a multi-year facility master plan. Develops and creates strategic initiatives aligned with the organizational goals. The role will lead the continuous improvement initiative process and champion change across departments to deliver outstanding levels of performance and development. Directs and oversees project management program for the site to ensure that business goals are achieved and the results are in line with stated objectives. Will liaison with key stakeholders. This role will lead efforts to analyze and identify key business drivers and work with the Senior Leadership team to prioritize before implementing agreed improved initiatives.

Primary responsibilities for role include the following:

  • Leads the planning, drafting, implementation, and progress monitoring of a multi-year strategic facility master plan for a Grifols manufacturing site.

  • Identifies issues, risks, and opportunities for improvement, and proposes strategy adjustments to improve coordination, communication, and mitigate or avoid future risks.

  • Creates and drives the long-term continuous improvement strategy for a Grifols manufacturing site that ensures a sustainable culture.

  • Manages and facilitates continuous improvement learnings and projects to improve productivity and accelerate growth, specifically to establish, maintain and drive utilization of Value Stream Maps.

  • Creates and drives the long term implementation strategy of digital technologies to aid in managing a GMP compliant work environment.

  • Oversee project managers and the program for the delivery of projects/programs on time, within scope and on budget in a direct and indirect reporting structure.

  • Coach and mentor project management practitioners and share knowledge of best practices.

  • Coordinate project deliverables with Project Managers, Engineering, Facilities and other support team members/ contractors in a direct and indirect reporting structure.

  • Serves as the key liaison from the manufacturing site to the Global Biopharma project management office.

  • Other tasks and assignments as instructed by management.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of plasma fractionation, purification, aseptic filling, packaging, warehousing and support functions, including quality systems that make-up the business model in a bio-tech/pharma industry.

  • Technical expertise and strong operational and project management skills.

  • Effective team building and leadership skills.

  • Excellent knowledge of computer systems and programs.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to effectively collaborate and work with all levels within a global, matrix-driven organization.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Life Sciences, Business, Engineering, Health Management or equivalent required. MBA preferred.

  • Six Sigma Green Belt Certification preferred. Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification preferred.

  • At least 10 years of management experience preferred in the bio-tech/pharma industry is required.

Occupational Demands:

Work is performed in an office environment with exposure to electrical office equipment. Frequently sits for 6-8 hours per day. Frequent hand movement of both hands with the ability to make fast, simple, movements of the fingers, hands, and wrists. Occasionally walks. Occasionally bends and twists neck. Light to moderate lifting and carrying objects with a maximum lift of 25lbs. Frequently drives to site locations, frequently travels within the United States, occasional international travel. Able to communicate complex information and ideas so others will understand; with the ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences. Frequently interacts with others, relates sensitive information to diverse groups. Ability to apply abstract principles to solve complex conceptual issues. Performs a wide range of complex tasks as dictated by variable demands and changing conditions with little predictability as to the occurrence.
