Our Demi-Grand (DG) team within Research & Innovation (R&I) works closely with all R&I teams and is responsible for designing, validating and commercializing formulas for L'Oreal. This includes hands-on execution and oversight of the initial scale-up manufacturing of new formulations, conducting evaluation of batches using laboratory equipment, and assisting in the development of processing procedures.

We are looking for a talented and highly motivated Senior Processing Chemist to join our Demi-Grand team in our Clark , New Jersey research facility. The role involves significant amount of hands-on work in the DG production floor, occasionally in laboratories, pilot plant, or manufacturing plant environments. Combination of office, DG production floor, Pilot plant, and commercial production environments with the percentage of each varying with the requirements and stages of projects. Someone in this role will l ead process troubleshooting and joint batch project management with Demi Grand (DG) and Corporate Industrial Processing (CIQ) as well as actively participating in and/or leading internal project teams focused on improvement of workflows, safety and efficiency. They will be expected to works on multiple projects simultaneously as needed with minimal guidance.

As a Senior Processing Chemist in our Demi-Grand research team, your main responsibilities are:

  • Manufactures initial scale-up batches of revised/new formulations, refining procedures based on guidelines from formulation Laboratories, Process Development and Processing staff.

  • Interface with all Research & Innovation (R&I) teams responsible for designing, validating and commercializing formulas for the group to define and design processes for revised/new innovative products.

  • Evaluate batches against lab standards, specifications and make necessary adjustments as required.

  • Practice good laboratory techniques in compliance with DGO guidelines and laboratory SOP’s.

  • Complete necessary records for all batches, clean equipment after use and maintain the cleanliness of the work area.

  • Suggest, help explore and support introduction and implementation of new processing technologies.

  • Provide technical assistance to Demi-Grand Processing Team on new technologies and equipment, train new employees on equipment use and batching techniques.

  • Works on defining production process for product for manufacturing (phasing).

  • Contribute to department activity/project reports as required and otherwise present results to management and L’Oreal process community.

  • Participate in and/or lead safety evaluations, assessments, and initial start-up training of new equipment.

  • Assist management in running workflow and efficiency improvement projects.

  • Recommend improvements in procedures, methodology and techniques.

  • Work on fairly complex equipment under deadlines, as errors in work may cause business delays.

  • Execute batches and troubleshoot with minimal supervision, in a team setting.

  • Performs other duties as required.

    To Succeed in this Position, You Have:

  • A completed Bachelor's Degree in a scientific (Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Materials Science etc.) or engineering (Chemical, Materials, Biomedical) discipline (required)

  • 3-5 years of relevant industry experience in cosmetic/personal care related production or scale-up labs (required)

  • Experience with the operation and cleaning of various types of manufacturing equipment (preferred).

  • Experience with cosmetic and personal care products is (preferred).

  • Basic knowledge of laboratory procedures, including familiarity with cGMP and FDA regulations (preferred).

  • Strong organization skills to handle multiple projects with strict deadlines seeking direct guidance as needed.

  • The ability to work well independently and interact effectively in a team environment.

  • The ability to think creatively to find new and unique solutions to complex problems.

  • The ability to make decisions independently.

  • Demonstrated English verbal and written skills.

  • Ability to use and maintain balances, thermometers, and other related laboratory instruments and to prepare samples and complete test procedures.

  • The ability to lift 35 lbs (11.3 kg) (required)

  • The ability to be fitted to wear a respirator and wear for extended periods (required)

  • The ability to be onsite, in the office as this is an essential function of the position (required)

  • Authorization to work in the United States on a full-time, permanent, ongoing basis without the need for legal sponsorship now or in the future (required)
