About the role

Under direction of the Engineering and Maintenance Manager, the Process Engineer is responsible for optimizing existing processes and clean-in-place systems using continuous improvement tools. Analyses and evaluates project designs and ensures compliance with engineering principles and company standards. Oversees all phases of assigned projects from inception to final operation.

Key responsibilities

Using continuous improvement tools, leads projects to improve equipment cleanliness, debottleneck processes, improve throughput, reduce waste, and decrease costs.

Develops Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to detail operations of new equipment or revises SOPs to reflect changes to operations as a result of modifications to existing equipment.

Develops capacity models for existing processing lines and identifies bottlenecks that restrict capacity. Suggests projects that can improve capacity on the line.

Creates capital proposal including scope document, cost estimate and timeliness for management review and approval.

Manages projects to meet all technical requirements.

Develops project specifications and systems by making calculations, preparing process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation drawings (P&IDs), site and floor plans.

Leads the selection of contractors/vendors and supervises same in actual design and specifications of installations.

Conducts feasibility studies for new or existing systems.

Assists in training Production Supervisors, Team Leaders, and Operators in the proper operation of equipment and prepare various instruction manuals.

Assis in the revisions to Standard Manufacturing Procedures (SMPs).

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and skills

Oversee entire project resource base including internal and external engineering and construction firms.

Education/Qualifications:

Four-year college or university program degree in relevant Engineering discipline (mechanical, electrical, or food processing).

Experience

Significant broad-based project management experience (at least one project over $5m).

Understands where/how to spend engineering dollars and how to manage internal/external engineering resources.

Background in food processing to include sanitary factory/process design.

Strong process improvement background with at least 5 years direct process improvement experience in the food industry.

Experience with a food equipment manufacturing company is preferred.

Compensation Data

The typical hiring range for this role is $73,758 to $108,755 annually and is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, location, etc. In addition to your pay, Kerry offers benefits such as a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and retirement contribution (all benefits and incentives are subject to eligibility requirements).
