Amergis Substitute Teacher- Per Diem in Claremont, California

The Substitute Teacher implements the daily instructionalplans of the classroom teacher in an effective manner. The Substitute Teacher maintains a classenvironment favorable to learning and personal growth and establishes effectiverapport with pupils while maintaining proper classroom management. TheSubstitute Teacher works effectively and in collaboration with the buildingadministrator and other teachers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and attimes designated

  • Creates and implements the instructional plans in accordancewith the district curriculum

  • Maintains a classroom climate that is age appropriate andconducive to learning

  • Maintains reasonable rules which encourage self-disciplineand responsibility and are in alignment with school policy

  • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of theschool curriculum and goals

  • Implements a variety of instructional techniques andinstructional media

  • Acquaints self with and adheres to the policies andprocedures as established by the Board of Education and Administration inwritten or verbal form

  • Creates and implements response to Intervention programs asneeded

  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protectstudents, equipment, materials, and facilities

  • Maintains records as required by law, District policy, andadministrative regulations

  • Assists the administration in implementing all policies andrules governing student life and conduct

  • Serves as a positive role model for students, demonstratingprofessionalism that includes a positive attitude, positive and respectfulcommunication, and professional appearance

  • Holds and communicates high expectations of studentachievement and behavior

  • Attends staff meetings and IEP Meetings as requested by thedistrict

  • Meets expected standards of professional behavior

  • Administers assessments on a timely basis as directed byadministration

  • Communicates effectively with parents when needed

  • Provides individualized and small group instruction asprescribed in the daily instructional plans

  • Maintains a professional and positive rapport withparents/co-workers/administration/School Board

  • Supervises classroom students, paraprofessionals andvolunteers

  • Performs other duties as assigned/necessary

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher required

  • Teacher license/certification, as applicable by state,contract or district

  • One year of experience, preferred

  • Willingness and ability to accept direct responsibility forsafety, wellbeing, or work output of other people

  • Ability to read and implement instructional plans,correspond with parents and administration, and effectively present informationand respond to questions from administration, parent, students, staff members,and the general public as requested

  • Complies with all relevant professional standards ofpractice

  • Participation and completion of Amergis’ Competency programwhen applicable

  • Current CPR if applicable

  • TB questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable

  • Current Health certificate (per contract or stateregulation)

  • Must meet all federal, state and local requirements

  • Successful completion of new hire training as applicable tojob site

  • Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAArequirements

  • Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to andfrom appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors,co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in theEnglish language is required

  • Computer proficiency required

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
