JOB TITLE: SCHOOL SOCIAL WORKER
DEPARTMENT: Special Education
REPORTS TO: Assistant Superintendent for Special Education
*SALARY RANGE: * According to the Terms of the Master Agreement for AFT.
*FULL TIME - SCHOOL YEAR POSITION with generous benefit package. *
*$8,000 SIGN-ON BONUS*
JOB SUMMARY: Provides evaluation services to students suspected of having a qualifying disability, and direct services only to special education students in their area of assignment as determined by the IEP.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned by Administration.
- Follow all established policies, practices, and procedures in terms of duties and responsibilities of the position as delegated by the Assistant Superintendent for Special Education and/or delegated supervisor.
- Participate as a member of the IEP as appropriate and requested.
- Provide direct counseling services to individual students or groups of students with disabilities, and/or parents, to enhance the student's educational progress based on the IEP report. Provide assessment, participate as a member of the multidisciplinary team, IEP team.
- Develop and implement annual goals and objectives for each student with a qualifying disability as required by the student's IEP.
- Assist with referral and transition to community-based supports.
- Maintain accurate records needed by the RESD and local education agency for management, evaluation and planning.
- Maintain a cooperative relationship with professionals and others within the school setting, effectively manage which fosters recognition and respect for every individual.
- Organize, time, energy and workload in order to meet responsibilities and complete assignments with due consideration of priorities among various responsibilities.
- Assist General and Special education staff and Administration at manifestation determination meeting as requested.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Meets requirements as stated in Michigan Special Education Rules.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Certificates and/or licenses approved by the State of Michigan, Department of Education.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Must be able to communicate effectively with children, parents/guardians, co-workers, staff and Administration. Must be able to read, comprehend and analyze instructions, correspondence, memos, reports, IEPs and related Special Education rules and regulations. Must be able to compose appropriate correspondence and reporting with clear and concise information utilizing proper spelling and grammar.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Must be able to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations in order to make comparisons and/or determinations of evaluations of student(s) to the general population, and to produce charts, graphs, and reports.
REASONING ABILITY
Must be able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
