WestRock Company Shipping Manager in City of Industry, California

Supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in loading and unloading cargo from conveyances such as trucks, and in moving and storing corrugated containers or packaging products. Is also responsible for Transportation to customers and sister plants. Assures that orders of product are delivered to the customer according to the required date and time. Makes sure that product is delivered in good condition according to customer's requirements and specifications.

Primary Duties

\u2022 Visit the work area frequently to ensure compliance, and discusses safety issues with team. Explains to team that safety excellence is expected and is a requirement of employment. Encourages the team to report incidents, near-misses and unsafe conditions. SWR employees regardless of level, position or tenure are responsible for upholding the safety standards regulations and policies.

\u2022 Follows all pertinent ISO 9001 procedures and assures that the activities in the Shipping Department adhere to OCCG's quality system

\u2022 Coordinates with Shipping and Warehouse Distribution Center employees and drivers to verify shipment of goods are delivered on specified date

\u2022 Communicates with Transportation Company to preclude delays in transit

\u2022 Coordinates with outside carrier's deliveries that need to be shipped to customers per their requirements

\u2022 Arranges distribution of materials to appropriate departments upon arrival to the Shipping Department

\u2022 Inspects products for quality and quantity to ensure adherence to specifications

\u2022 Responsible for the operation of company's private fleet of vehicles, including maintenance

\u2022 Responsible for compliance with State/ Federal Regulations including but not limited to: DOT, CHP, CA Pull Notice

\u2022 Ensure compliance with Union Collective Bargaining Agreement within supervised environment

\u2022 Responsible for Talent Development of direct reports

\u2022 Responsible for Workforce Planning within Shipping and Warehouse Distribution

\u2022 Understand Key Performance Indicators within the Shipping and Warehouse Distribution Center

\u2022 Schedule meetings with department to address areas of concern

\u2022 Drive Continuous Improvement throughout area of Supervision

\u2022 Responsible for Inventory Control accuracy in Shipping and Warehouse Distribution Center

\u2022 Responsible for Month End inventory in Shipping and Warehouse Distribution Center

\u2022 Drives Cost Savings and Expense Reduction Measures throughout area of responsibility

\u2022 Works with Safety Manager to ensure safety rules are enforced

\u2022 All other duties as assigned

Job Qualifications

\u2022 Bachelor's Degree is preferred from a 4-year college; or 5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience

\u2022 Working knowledge of computerized inventory control system

\u2022 Basic computer skills for data entry

\u2022 Must be able to read, write and speak in English

\u2022 Good interpersonal & communication skills

\u2022 Highly organized, detail orientated and self-motivated individual (proactive attitude)

\u2022 Ability to work in fast-paced environment, learn quickly and follow established processes

\u2022 Good mathematical skills -- Ability to understand basic algebra, able to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, volume etc. (add and subtract numbers, multiply and divide by 10's and 100's...)
