Job Overview The UC Colleges of Medicine and Nursing are seeking applications for a dually appointed Social Determinants of Health (SDH) Education Director. The SDH Education Director reviews alignment of the curricula with key content that is expected to be integrated longitudinally and vertically throughout the curricula. Specific areas of focus include: 1)Examination of the longitudinal curricular thread on SDH and societal issues to make suggestions for improvement (e.g., Is the content accurate? Is the content integrated throughout the entirety of the curricula and across programs?). 2)Examination of curricular content (PPTs, lectures, assessment methods, exam questions) to identify and address issues of implicit bias, stereotypes, and inequities regarding race, gender, sexual orientation, etc. in collaboration with course directors, course managers, and instructors. 3) Identification of areas within the curriculum where SDH content could be incorporated intentionally across the longitudinal training experience of learners in accordance with best practices and accreditation standards. 4) Participation in curricular committees, task forces, team meetings, etc. where relevant. 5) Lead and coordinate professional development offerings on incorporating SDH into health professions curricula. The ideal SDH Education Director will possess previous experience in strategies that promote curricula that are inclusive and intentionally incorporate social determinants of health. The selected candidate will be experienced supporting a learning environment that fosters the success of students impacted by social determinants of health in nursing and medicine. The responsibilities of this position are aligned with the initiatives of the leading health professional organizations American Association of Medical Colleges (AAMC), the American Medical Association Center for Health Equity, and the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) Core Competencies for Professional Nursing Education. Job Overview Continued This is a 12-month position with the potential for renewal. This position will support 50% FTE or less. This position offers robust research opportunities in the areas of social determinants as it relates to education outcomes, inclusive pedagogy, and assessment strategies. Several multidisciplinary research interest groups in these areas exist across the colleges including an established community of practice with external institutions providing opportunities to advance one's program of research. This individual will report to leadership within the Colleges of Medicine and Nursing. The position allows for hybrid schedule and offers flexibility in work hours.
