UC HEALTH LLC New Grad Extern, Surgical Oncology, Days in CINCINNATI, Ohio

UC Health is hiring a Part-Time New Graduate Extern for the Surgical Oncology 9CCP unit for the Day shift at UC Medical Center. The New Graduate Extern will support the Medical Center's 24 bed Surgical Oncology 9CCP in delivering high-quality care to patients based on assessed needs, established standards of care, and according to policy and procedures. UCMC is at the forefront in treating patients with pancreatic and liver diseases and is one of two centers that offer autologous islet cell transplantation for the treatment of chronic pancreatitis. 9CCP cares for these patients following ICU until discharge and when patients are readmitted with pain or infection issues. The unit also cares for acute care surgery, thoracic, gynecology/oncology, vascular and colorectal patients. Most of the patients at 9CCP are cared for under the direction of a surgeon. Most patients are admitted from PACU, ICU, ER or directly from their home. Nursing care is concentrated around recovery after surgery including mobility, monitoring intake and output and pain management. Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Graduate of Nursing School (ASN, BSN or MSN)
  • Prior experience as an unlicensed assistive personnel in Patient Care Services, preferred
  • BLS Certification, required.

Required Skills & Knowledge:

  • Must have graduated within the last 6 months.
  • Required to attend all scheduled NCLEX review sessions offered by UC Health.
  • Basic computer skills
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Nursing theories and concepts, and understanding of standards of professional practice
  • Competence in basic patient care tasks (those allowed by law to be performed by unlicensed assistive personnel)
